Kawasaki Reveals Hydrogen Bike Plans

If they get it right, maybe the rest of the industry will follow.   :thumb:

Direct-injected supercharged H2 engine is the basis of a future hydrogen project.

It’s WAY over my head, but I read in the comments about the possible (in principle) removal, of inlet valves.
Does this mean the fuel/air is injected directly into the cylinder, not an intake tract as such and would that mean that all the complexity/mass/friction/heat etc.. Could be made redundant ?

I didn't see the the comment on removing the inlet valve but I must admit I only skim the comments generally. Direct injection itself has been around for years and is nothing new, both my current cars have it and the HP fuel pump on those puts out considerably higher pressure than 1450psi. It's main problem is contamination of the back of the inlet valves which as the article pointed out is solved by also having port injection. This is also already in production in the car world.
It will be interesting to see where we go with the Hydrogen fuel. One things for sure, if they completely phase out the ICE the motorcycle and automotive world will lose a lot of customers at the "enthusiasts" segment of the market. With the ever increasing ability to monitor vehicle driving in real time and the increasingly draconian penalties for transgression you can forget about any actual performance advantage for EV's to compensate for losing the "character" of an ICE powered car or bike. So unless an alternative fuel becomes available for the ICE powered vehicles everyone will need to get used to the automotive equivalent of a "white good" for transport which is fine with me as a DD but will totally end it for me as an "enthusiast" customer which is where the bulk of my fiscal contributions to the industry are spent.

Wow.  Didn't realize we were going back to the 1990s when they said Hydrogen was almost here.

Yes Phil.
I take great solace in the fact that I am 63 years old and will most likely be able to enjoy my bikes in their current form until it’s all over (for me).
Riders like my Son Christopher @ 32 years of age, will almost certainly not be able to rely on a lifetime of biking like I have had. I think it’s true that with changing expectations and fashions, the future biker will morph slowly and inexorably with the times as we mostly all have, towards the future landscape and the spark revolution.
I do struggle to suppress a wry grin, when I see statements on these pages like..
“I’m damned if I’m going electric unless I can get 500 miles to a (10 minute) charge @ 75 mph, like I can in my 6 litre Dodge...”
You...will... have... no...choice.
You will not be forced to sell your vehicle, but you may find that it has to pass a roadworthy inspection bi annually and will not meet the local regs that have been moved in a marathon midnight sitting of Parlaiment voted through @ 2:00 am by a droopy eyed panel of faceless Prius driving Pollies, hoping to adjourn to the Gentleman’s Club and get on the piss with their inappropriately young “escorts”...(whoops..! Wives...).
The motor vehicle as we know it, will not be used as an adjunct to enhance your lifestyle, it will be a faceless humourless implement, with the personality of a plastic bucket.
If I was 30 years old today, I think I would look at transferring my aviation navigational techniques into a maritime field and buy a cruising sailboat.

If you look at some of the major players in the motor industry, you’ll see that they are beginning to introduce target dates for full scale electric only production.
I think it is Volkswagen that sold a major stake in Ducati recently, to concentrate their efforts in electric vehicles. Those corporation names may not be correct, but that’s immaterial.

We’re rooted.

Quite possibly. I'm just hoping we will end up in a place where the EV and the ICE can coexist, each focused on their areas of advantage and there is a place for the ICE "enthusiast" that's not too financially onerous. I'm planning on a new DD in the next 12-18 months and unfortunately an EV isn't quite there for my usage requirements at the moment and with a new DD I always look at a 10 year investment. So I'll be forced to buy another ICE DD and probably be disadvantaged in some form or another for the last 3-5 years of ownership. In 10 years time on the enthusiasts forums the main topic of conversation will probably be " home distillation of fuel" lol.

You can make a fuel air bomb with gasoline or fougasse.  Both have had more fatalities than hydrogen accidents.
