1 or 2 ?!?

That's like 5-6 payments on my Jeep when I was paying (very little interest) on it.

Shit that's still at least 3 payments on the wife's Land Rover.

Ok... Carry on.

I probably would have traded it in on a Maverick or Frontier...

Your jeep cost $65k like the approx new truck price being discussed here?

UPDATE:  Rear end has been fixed, new pinion gear, spiders, posi clutches, ring gear, bearings/seals etc.  I was wrong on cost estimate.  Cost me a total of $2099.52.

Next is the electrical front rack and pinion steering system which cost about $1800.00 just for the parts (because it’s an electric system) and a Cv axle.  The front end rack and pinion system and cv axle will be a total of another $2500.00

So I will have a total of $4600.00 in repairs in my 2014 ram 1500.  Still better than buying a new 65k dollar truck but it still hurts!  Lol.  Oh well

No it is a JKU that I ordered and had built. MSRP was $42k, but I paid ~$38k.

But the land Land Rover in the example was $75k.

Still one doesn't have to buy the loaded top trim levels, there are trucks out there for half that $65k figure whatever that's worth.

Huzzah!

You'll likely be better than new, and you'll know what you have, which is worth something.

Bob, That's less than $600 a year, not bad for a working truck. Just think on what you've done w/it!! A Keeper now, at least another 8yrs.

Just think, now you can spend all that money you saved by not buying a new truck and get that Jeep Wrangler you've been wanting.  :-)

It just means that it has an electric motor to operate the power steering and not hydraulic.

I didn't catch that.  Found this

I have a 2014 ram 1500 pick up truck that needs the rear end replaced.  It will take six months to obtain the correct 3.92 ratio rear end for it (it’s a long story as to why that is). Which one of the following choices would you choose to get a vehicle.  Yes I outright own the 2014 ram and owe nothing on it.

Option 1.  Trade in Ram at a dealership for a new truck (Toyota or Nissan probably)

Option 2.   Buy a used vehicle to drive and fix the ram when the rearend is available in six months and then own two trucks.

Option 3.  Go without a cage vehicle for the six month period and just ride my motorcycle during that period, and then fix the ram after 6 months.

What would you do?  Thanks and Merry Christmas

Assuming there is no current or foreseable pressing need for a truck, I would go with option 3.

From 4x4 shop on my ram inspection today;

Ring and pinion gears are shot, clutch packs in rearend are shot, spider gears are shot in the rear end, front end electric rack and pinion steering has excessive play rear axle bearings shot/worn out.  New truck cost 60k now days from what I priced on line.  Decided to fix mine to keep from having a huge truck monthly payment.  Should be fixed in two-three weeks for $2200.00 -$2500.00 approximately.

That's reasonable and smart, especially if you like the vehicle and the rest is good to go.  When I have a vehicle that is out of warranty, I try to set aside $ every month for the larger maintenance and repairs. Hope to not need it for my Tundra for a few years.

Put 140,000 on my 2006 Tundra with nothing more than tires and oil.  My 2016 only has 70,000 miles on it, so I wouldn't expect anything to wear out yet.  Pity the new 2022 model is so ugly (and no V8!)
