Used V7 Racer or new Continental GT?
« on: October 16, 2019, 11:51:14 AM »
I was kicking around the idea of selling my 900SS SP and buying a nice used V7 Racer.  Then last week a buddy bought a new RE Continental Gt.  He loves it, it has a 3 year warranty and costs the same, or LESS, than a used V7 Racer.  The bikes are similar in concept and size.  Plus I don't see much difference in the dealer network

I know this is a Guzzi forum, but for those who may have experience with both bikes, your thoughts on my choice please.

I'd vote to keep the SS/SP

Recently I took a demo ride on the 650 GT.  The RE 650 engine was smoother than I expected but that's not to say it was as smooth as the V7 mill on my 2013 V7.   I thought that the suspension was bargain basement even though the shocks looked like a serious upgrade.  The transmission was not nearly as refined as my V7.  Overall the GT seemed to be clunkier (not a good word but hopefully getting my point across) and the bike felt much heavier than the Guzzi.  Our ride was pretty spirited and even included a bit of Interstate.  Given the choice between the Racer and the GT I'd take the Racer if for no other reason than the Guzzi will be easier to maintain.

I have both a 2013 Guzzi V7 Stone and the prior poster's old Ducati 900SS.   I think you will be disappointed if you sell the Ducati to get the Guzzi.   The little Guzzi is a great bike, but I don't think I'd ditch my Ducati to get one.

I'll agree. If my V7R would have sold before the 900ss, the 900 would probably still be in the garage. Way different bikes and the carb'ed 900 motor is one of the most pleasurable street motors ever produced. The V7 will feel like an anemic scooter.
