Help again on a another bird ID
« on: June 16, 2021, 08:41:22 PM »
Have seen these a couple of time over 15 years but much more common this year. Think it is a yellow bunting. Our reference books for KS say possible but unlikely however we have created quite a bird haven.

my wife says its an Oriole, maybe an orchard hooded or Scotts Oriole.  She says it has the wrong beak shape to be a bunting, which has a short fat finch beak.

I also asked Fuzz, our alpha cat who is lying on the floor here in the living room.. He says it looks like a delicious bird.  He'll take two....

Where and how big would help with identification.

I must concur, juvenile female Oriole. We've got two male and female pair here this year.

Size was that of an Oriole or sparrow.

Female Oriole. We get transients here late spring. This year we have a nesting pair. I see the male in the tulip poplar trees getting nectar from the flowers. Put out a orange sliced in half. They love those.
