Not super horrible. Needs help, but can be done. Hope it goes to a good home and gets restored properly.

No year...no mileage....no details....could be a SCAM...(??), but if legitimate, would be a good project for someone...

In the past, I was led to believe the G5 was the unheralded under the radar minority of the Tonti bloodline. But it sure seems like there's a lot of them out there. Every other listing I see lately... Wonder what the numbers actually were?

I've got one you're welcome to borrow anytime, Chuck. In pretty good nick, too. Seems the previous owners showered a lot of love on the old girl.   :bike-037: :thumb:

according to this, 3857 were made from 1979-1985. This was a fax from someone inquiring. It's on Wikipedia. True not true who knows.

Kidsmoke, just noticed you now have a G5? Reading in between the lines here I get the feeling it's Chuck's old one... or is that the Silver one you've mentioned a few times in the past with the metal side bags? If so, you purchased well for either and congrats! As far as good G5 threads go here... there are a bunch and because of my obsession, I think I've commented on most of them at one point or another (I can't help myself). I'd link them here, but that means I'm forced to revisit my old comments again... and that can be torture  :azn:

I'd say post away, I think most If not all here would like to participate in any G5 related questions or new threads! (maybe that's just me...)

I owned the first G5 1978 model it was imported by Berliner Charlie pinihero of Bronx NY  was the first owner I bought it a year later with I believe 30,000 miles on it I sold it would well over 250,000 miles on it if you have a brochure of the early G5 with a person standing under the stone bridge with the motorcycle that's the motorcycle that I owned however that is not me standing there Story Goes Charlie Panera  was friends of Berliner and took the first one so fast that they didn't have time to print up brochures for the United States market and they asked him to borrow the bike back so they can take some pictures hence the one in the brochure is the bike that I owned it is in the brochure the motorcycle that you see is the G5 that I owned however that is not myself that was taken in a park and Reservoir area just north of New York City was a very nice motorcycle this now in Canada and when I sold it to Barry Cox I've had over 250,000 miles it is a wonderful motorcycle

your assumptions are correct. It's technically the 2nd I've owned but the first went through my hands very quickly, needed a lot, and got it from the person I sold it to, who was better suited to the task.

Chuck period of stewardship on this here one here has concluded. I get the impression this bike has graced the garages of many of the assembled over it's lifetime. It's been well cared for, and used for it's intended purpose.

it's titled as a 79, and shows Dec 78 as it's build date, which indicates to me it's early in the lineage. Absolute creampuff, and handles deceptively well. I'm happy. This one will stay for a while.

It's a sweetheart. Really..<shrug> I just need to thin the herd,  or it would be a keeper.
Next on the block will be the Mighty Scura, but I'm riding it to the Ky. rally and will most likely change my mind.

That is one sweet looking motorcycle.  I’m a G5 convert (bad pun) and about three days away from finishing a frame-up on my ‘79. I can’t wait to see what it is like to ride a big block. Maybe a G5 picture thread to recycle all the great pictures is in order.
