Title: V85TT possible for sale-Any interest from my fellow New Englanders
Post by: dave1068 on June 19, 2021, 07:34:06 AM
Hey gang,

Recently bought my 2020 V85TT Travel, still as new and had recent 900 mile service done, as much as I enjoy the bike, I recently got a new job the next state over and its a great daily ride of about 100 miles rounds trip but all freeway and would prefer a bigger bike, just seeing if there might be any interest in the bike from those in my area (New England) RI (02910) Asking $13k (new is about 13500 plus 600 freight plus whatever dealers charge for "doc" fee"

Thanks for looking.

I know personally my interest is increased/decreased when I know the selling price.

The V85TT is on my radar as a future bike, but I will probably hold out for the tubeless wheels unless a 2020 came along at a price where I could convert to tubeless wheels and still be in the right value.

Blond moment-forgive me lol

Asking 13k, for those looking, they are about 13500 from dealer plus 600 freight and whatever doc fee is. (first service is done)

Saddlebags are included just not on bike.

For the cost of a tube of silicone caulk/sealant and two bolt in valve stem you can convert them to tubeless. About $18 total.

Good point, I was thinking that. Funny story: when I had my stelvio, which had tubeless tires, the o rings started drying out and cracking so the dealer converted it to a tube tire for about the same price if nit cheaper :boozing:

yep.  When I was at Hamlin Cycles last month I spent an hour working on replacing the O rings on a Stelvio wheel for exactly that.
IMO tubeless spoke wheels should have a flange for the spokes-anything else is a potential failure point.

Mmm.  Can you do the sealant and O-rings on the tube valve stem and have the "no leak" of the tube, and the ability to plug and go a screw in the tire?

Are you asking if you can seal the valve stem of the tube to the wheel to be air tight? If so possible but personally I do not like to tighten the "stay nut the top side of the tubes valve stem because if the tire slips on the rim it has a tendency to move the tube. If the valve stem is held rigid it can shear/cut it. If loose it can move a bit.

This is certainly a bigger issue with running love pressure but it can be an issue even in higher pressure situations. Most DIY tire installers glop on so much soap that until it dries you could probably get the tire to slip on the rim on you garden tractor.

Good Point.  My neighbor picked up a Yamaha T7 and sealed the spokes with a sealant.  Just a mushroom dab on each, and then did a butyl tape that never dries around the entire rim.  It has been working for him thus far.
