EV tire pressure
« on: July 20, 2019, 10:21:34 AM »
What’s the lowest air pressure you think I can do safely on my 98 EV? I’ve got the suspension the softest settings and it sure seems “ stiffly spring”. Most likely the nature of the beast being an Italian sport bike lol! I think I normally are in the 34-38 range. Bigger dude- solo rider no gear.  30-34?

i like 33-36 front and 36-38 rear I'm 235. change your fork oil and it's time for rear shocks.

What Vagrant said. if you go too low, and I dont know what that is, the tires will heat up and you could have a catastrophic tire failure at road speed. You can only vary the pressure within a small range to change the ride.  I judge my pressures by tire wear patterns and Im always at the upper end, it makes me nervous to be very low, especially on the rear

the EV's has good forks. they need a max of 15 ounces of 15 weight. lighter to 10 if your under 200#. if you go to 16 onces like the book says it will be harsh!

A gentleman stopped in at Marcus Dairy one Sunday morning when the guzzi crowd was 20 or more strong....he complained of the really lousy handling on a red and cream EV, yes the one that won Best Bike of the Year by one of the mags..

Tire pressure was 32 front, 36 rear. The heathens on hand suggested we could "pump you up" a bit. We talked him into just trying 36-38 front and a 40-42 rear COLD, based on some other EV riders

He came back next week saying thanks! Holy Shiite! Omg! Thanks for keeping me from selling the bike...a whole different animal to ride, complete confidence in handling

Can't hurt to try...hot (1/2 hour riding) those pressures  come up to 39-42 front and 42-48 rear.

you don't have a tire pressure problem unless you go to 30 - 34 as you have questioned! I'm a big guy and have been rinding an 1998 EV for many years and run 36 front and 40 rear.

"stiffy spring" is NOT the nature of the beast being an Italian sport bike.

Your problem is the shocks are way passed their "sale by date". Let me guess, they are the OEM shocks that came on the bike?  Get yourself a NEW pair of Ikon shocks: 3 position spring  pre-load adjustments and 5 position rebound damping adjustments.

And buying a pair of used ones is NOT going to solve your problem but only to replace your problem with another problem.
