Working on another and then I'm done. It's easier just to go and buy something new or slightly used.

Hi, what bike are the wheels from?

Thks

My Norge could carry 6 more gallons of fuel without weight penalty or at least retrofit a Stelvio tank.  Project complete.

I want a Suzuki SV1000 engine in a frame with quality twin shocks, mid mounted foot controls, long flat seat, (28" seat height please) tall Triumph style handlebars,  5 gallon tank, and decent front forks. Or, a Suzuki TU with a DR650 mill.

I have thought similarly.  DR 650 engine in a more street oriented fame or a modified DR 650.  I think the Honda Rebel in 300 or 500 versions would be a great start.

Also thought about a DR 650 version of the Ryca Suzuki Savage/Boulevard S40 bike.  Much better engine and chassis as a platform.  https://duckduckgo.com/?q=ryca+motors+cafe+racer+kit%2C+gallery&t=h_&iax=images&ia=images

Or fitting a single into a first generation SV 650 frame.  Best looking production frame in the motorcycle world IMO.

Currently have a V-Strom font end, modified SV 650 rear wheel, a few seats, and a couple gas tanks for the DR 650 project.  Just need to get it higher up the priority list......

It would be a TY175 set of running gear with uprated shocks and forks, and a 250cc w/c engine of some type for just pottering about the lanes in an unobtrusive manner.

The vintage trials bike of choice for many.  Almost any part imaginable available from the UK.  A friend sold one of the nicest one's I have ever seen a couple years back.  Completely rebuilt, many $ in aftermarket upgrades, he started out asking $2600 US and was a bit dismayed to only get $1800 after several months of advertising.

A friend has one, been trying to get him to sell it for years.  He thinks it is gold.  I'm looking for a bronze price.  Would be a fun project.  In the US, Yamaha sold an ATV called the Blaster with a 200cc engine very similar to the TY/MX/DT/RT 175/180 motor.  With lots of machine work, the TY can be punched out to 240cc, or so I'm told.

I have had persistent thoughts of putting a Morini 250 or 350 motor into my SSR/Italjet Buccaneer Cafe (or a second donor):

As it has only about 18 hp, either would give a big boost. It looks like there would be room. Locating a Morini engine seems hard. Any leads out there?

If I could build a special, it would be my first bike, but with modern chassis, suspension, brakes, ignition, internals, etc.  The shape would be exactly the same, but have modern instruments, lights, etc.

Will do!  Hopefully we will both live long enough.....

After I took measurements and did the calculations, a friend machined the SV rear wheel to fit the DR swingarm.  No big deal.  The V-Strom rear wheel is much wider, despite the V-Strom being a 4.00" wide rim and the SV being a 4.5" wide rim.  I'll look at it again, but the V-Strom rear wheel looks to require mucho material to be welded on after the excessive width was removed.  Tough to bolt sprockets and discs to air.

On the plus side, both the V-Strom and SV wheels are 3 spoke cast.  The SV spokes are rounder, the V-Strom spokes are more triangular.  Once mounted and painted, the difference might not be glaringly obvious.

Other thought was a DR 650 engine in a mid 1990's LTM Duke 640 chasis.  The drive chain is on the opposite side on the older Dukes, so the rear brake caliper would have to be remounted or scrapped and replaced with a DR 650 caliper or similar.

Speaking of "pictures" and building a special.........

https://rycamotors.com

Ryca may not be in the business of supplying Suzuki Savage/Boulevard S40 kits anymore.
