Recently, a few of us had a pretty good time meeting up and having a meal at the Nut Hut in Altoona, KS, and there has been some discussion about starting up a regular 4 states area meetup. The idea is to rotate it through the 4 states, each meetup, in order to keep things fresh and even out the riding distances for the attendees. So far, The Undercliff at Tipton Ford, MO, and the Reddings Mill Inn around Joplin have been suggested as future destinations. Now all we need to do is settle on a date and destination for the next one, and get some ideas for Arkansas and Oklahoma. So let's get some ideas flowing, folks!
As an aside, I apologize for taking so long to post this. I had said (and intended) to do it, last Monday, but I've been on overtime and had several other things on my plate.

Good idea...
Here in the southwest, there is a big, annual bike event in Ignacio, CO, near the "Four Corners" states of AZ-CO-UT-NM. Mostly a Harley event, but it is always well attended...
Is there going to be a Guzzi event next year at Cedar Vale, KS again? There is a group of us here in AZ that might make the long journey next May... :thumb:  :boozing:

There will most definitely be a Wild Guzzi National at Cedar Vale, next year, and with any luck, the Sultan will be there in all of his glory.

I'm in JC! Either one of those joints are cool with me. I'm good most Saturdays. There is also Fred & Reds's Chili in Joplin and Cap's cabin in Lamar for fish & Chips, and all the fried chicken joints around Pittsburgh like Barto's and Chicken Annie's

Most excellent. I'll add those to the list for MO and KS destinations. Depending on the places and times, I may or may not be able to make Saturdays for a while, as I'll be working until 2 PM on those days, for the foreseeable future. Whatever works for the most people is the important thing, though. If Saturdays work best, then I'll make whichever ones I can!

I can do a Sunday too <shrug> as long as I get my honey-doo's done

I'm 251 miles east of the Oklahoma border on interstate 44 - so I'd be interested; I missed the last one because my Wife made me take her to Yellowstone and all that. Instead.

I'd definitely need to meet up after enjoying my typical ~100 mile loop (~120 miles if goats are involved) of sweet SW Missouri county road curves. That's an open invitation to anyone who cares to join. Longer distance arrivals are more than welcome to camp out at my place..or crash in the shop. I'll even make sure the bike lift is unoccupied and at your favorite elevation. Crib rails are your responsibility.

Your "neck of the woods" seems to be about the mid point for everyone Leroy. (except you) We could meet down at Jasper so you can get a ride in if you want to :thumb:

If we did that, I may ne able to get ahold of one of my dad's old Guzzi buddies who we did a lot of touring with, back in the day. If I remember correctly, he lives around Jasper.
-
Jasper is the heart of riding. I remember stopping for lunch at Low Gap and saw John & Chris there. I was just riding on a Thursday on my way to Harrison and decided to turn at the crossroads to go to lunch.
-
Salina OK is located in the middle of some good riding , has some interesting history and a large lake with camping . There is a Best Western just down the road in Locust Grove . No idea about the restaurants , although there are a couple in town .
Picher OK is now a ghost town , but it eerie to ride thru there and realize it was once a thriving little community . Commerce is just down the road , where Mickey Mantle grew up , even the old home he grew up in is a bit of an historical experience , the old metal barn/garage on the property still bears the dents from a young Mickey smacking baseballs into its West side while his dad Mutt pitched to him . Afton is 20 miles South of Commerce , and has an interesting car museum where several of the actual car engine sounds for the movie *Cars* were recorded . There is a motorcycle museum in Miami OK , although the Second Kick motorcycle museum in Grove is much better , and also has an in house eatery that mostly just serves old fashioned coneys .

We had lots of rides on Rt 66 between Tulsa and OKC (Stroud, Bristow, Jones, Luther, Cushing). Had lunch in Pawnee and saw Pawnee Bill's ranch. Lunch at the Mexican restaurant at the Ponca City Airport. Chicken in Okarche. Met up at the Undercliff in MO. There's a chicken shack in Luther. And Guthrie is very cool old western town and Byron Berline's Bluegrass Fest is in the fall. We had a run to a small waterfall around Siloam Springs. Tahlequah has great roads north and eat, don't know of restaurants. And Dusty mentioned Grand Lake.
One of the best runs is down to Mt Scott & Meers Store in Wichita Mtns. Probably a little far from Mizzoura but still a neat run.
We're a little more spread out than when Michael was swinging it. If we go deep into MO and ARK like Jasper, it would be an overnighter for me. The farthest one day deal for me was probably the Undercliff. Same is true if the eastern guys ran with the buffaloes at Mt Scott or attended Byron's fest. Actually, I am the only one spread out, I think the bulk of you guys are east of me.
My favorite weekend is Harrison/Jasper/Yellville and running the twisties like I did in June.
If you want to announce a ride up, I have a copy of Michael's e-mail list. Last time I used it was for Gary Scotts Campout at Canton Lake.

Alright, now I get it. I didn't understand the attraction of a ride to Jasper, MO....
-
I'm in. Possibly "we're" in if momma is up to it. Us in the 4-states are very lucky that there is a wealth of places to go and see. Hard to narrow anything down, so yes a rotational thing would be cool. Would give people a good excuse to get off the couch.
Ideas
Missouri: Undercliff, Roaring River State Park
Arkansas: Oark General Store
Oklahoma: Talimena Drive restaurant (Skyline Cafe)
Kansas: Big Brutus (West Mineral), Invade Chet

If some of you didn't mind riding further into KS I would suggest coming up to Newton. We have an excellent Italian restaurant and several very good Mexican ones.
Dennis Franz lives in Newton. A very interesting and talented guy. Search "Dennis Franz V-8" on You Tube. He has built scale model tractors, diesel Guzzi, a 500cc V-8 that he has in a running bike frame and much more. I am quite sure I could arrange a tour.
I also have plenty of camping room.

Second Kick in Grove is motorcycle museum + restaurant
I've not been to this one or the one Miami.
I suppose most you have already been to Seaba Station Motorcycle Museum?
-
The MC museum in Miami is more of a merchandise outlet , 2nd Kick in Grove is more of an enthusiasts hangout , like Seaba Station. Met the guy who owns 2nd Kick before he really even started the museum project , a real live MC junkie , bikes everywhere at his house and place of business . Delrod and I spent a pleasant few hours in his new museum , one of the owner's partners in crime worked for Triumph back in the day , his scrapbook is amazing .

Last time I was @ the Miami (or Mi-am-uh) museum they had a cool display of Steve McQueen's stuff. Did you know he was a Missouri boy??

Lots of great ideas floating around. I think I know where we'll set the next one for. I'll check some things out, tonight, and make a post about it, this week.

Ok! Since it's been suggested by several people, and Luap said he'd be in for it, I'm thinking the Undercliff near Joplin for the next meetup. The only other question is when. I'm working Saturdays for the foreseeable future, and busy for the next couple of Sundays, so how does the 18th or 25th of this month work for the rest of you? When we settle on a date, I'll make a separate thread for it.

for several years, we did a "Four States Chowdown" at Undercliff each August. It's the natural choice!

Probably work better to simply alter the heading of this thread to include the new dates and destination . Let this concept build some history , threads with high post count tend to draw more attention . Just a suggestion .

Ok, folks, time for another 4 states area meetup. This time, we're doing it at Undercliff near Joplin, MO, on Sunday, August 25th. I was thinking about 4 PM, just like last time, but Delrod pointed out to me that Undercliff closes at 3 on Sundays, so now I'm thinking about a brunch or lunch meetup around 11 or 12. That would be early enough to have some food, socialize for a bit, and then still get home, before the late afternoon peak heat hits. How about some input and a head count? :bike-037:
-
I’m in :thumb:
-
So the Undercliff is open again? The last time I rode by there a couple of years ago, it was closed and for sale.

I rode 360 miles in Arkansas with 7 of them last Sunday and had a really nice day. Andrea was in the group and improves the scenery considerably and is a very good rider. I had apprehensions about a group this size, but it turned out to be a nice day. 417 is the area code in SW Missouri. I didn’t name the Facebook group <shrug> nice folks, no attitudes, no drama, no smart asses.

One week away. Looks like we might have a good turn out.

Well, Undercliff closes at 3 on Sunday, so I'm thinking a noon lunch meetup. Anyone have any objections to that?

Noon works for me

I was thinking noon anyways. Glad for the clarification.

Need reservations?

Yes reservation required. Send me fifty dollars and I'll take care of it

Definitely happening. I spoke to them, today, actually. They do not take reservations, but said that between their indoor and outdoor seating, they will have plenty of room for us, whether 5 or 20 show up.

Well, I may or not make it, now, depending on the weather. They're currently ccallingfor a good possibility of all day storms, around my area, so I'm going to play it like this: if it's not storming when we get ready to leave, around 10 am, then we'll be there. If its storming like crazy, though, probably not.

I put the windshield back on to deflect the summer bugs, guess it will cut through rain. Ill be there 11:30.

Well, not looking great for me. It's a solid mass of storms covering every bit of road between Chanute and Undercliff. If it were just some rain or it was only part of the ride, I'd still go, but considering the fact that the kiddo would be riding with me, today, that's a bit much to ride through for this one. Sorry, guys, but I hope that everyone who does make it has a safe ride and a good meetup! If someone could be sure to take some pics for the thread, I'd appreciate it!

Looking out the window here in Joplin it looks like the front has passed over this area. Still light sprinkles, but weather man says it will dissipate to scattered showers. I will attend on G5

Didn't know about the train wreck there. Thanks for including a bit of history in your post ---
-
Yeah, for sure. I had to look up the trainwreck as well. Sad story.
-
That train wreck in 1914 happened very near where we met. It was a local freight train head on with a gasoline powered passenger railbus known as a Doodlebug. These also were known generically as, ironically for our group, as Gallopin' Gooses.

A little more useless local trivia.
The Undercliff was a store in the 30s and a restaurant back in the 60s known as "Frank and Bonnie's" which was a good place to get spaghetti or fried chicken. It was even smaller then; trapped against the cliff, and only had about six tables. As a child I remember we called it "Bonnie and Clyde's" due to other local notoriety. On the red and white checked vinyl tablecloths, they had large green glass jugs of chilled water topped with odd gravity valves on every table so customers could fill their own water glasses. We drove there after church on Sundays in the 56 Plymouth and my dad always yelled at me for playing with the water bottle valves.
(https://i.ibb.co/ZXCRGnh/AR-307289837.jpg) (https://ibb.co/ZXCRGnh)
It is rumored Bonnie and Clyde stopped here for gas.

Alright, Oklahoma is next on the list, and I'm thinking Grove. Dusty says that the Second Kick motorcycle museum there us pretty cool, and has an in house eatery. I'll need to check on their hours, but does anyone have any objections to that spot?

Last time Doug and I were there the menu consisted of nothing but coneys . There is a bonus visiting Second Kick , one of the main figures involved in the operation worked for Triumph here in the states , his scrap book is amazing . You might need to mention knowing the crazy guy on the R 60 from Muskogee to gain access to the scrapbook . I am kinda busy with some things until after the Okie , likely won't make any day rides until after that event . Maybe schedule a visit to Grove later this year , or next Spring .

There is no reason that you couldn't eat after going to the museum?
There's bar and grill on Grand Lake called the Parrot Steakhouse and Grill. Burgers basket is probably $10 or less.
Just a suggestion.

Ok, I have to issue an apology, here. After looking it up, it turns out that Clanton's is closed on Sundays, as well. However, Parrot Steakhouse and Grill in Grove, OK, which was the other eatery suggestion, is open from 11 am to 9 pm. If that still works for you guys, then I'll lock it in.
Again, apologies for the flip flopping. I forgot to check on Sunday hours, first. I could just take a point for that Saturday, but I'm already taking off Friday and Saturday for the MOKAN, the next weekend.

So, I've scoured this post looking for a date/time to meetup. Also an address. Anyone?
-
Guys, don't make plans on my account, I am "iffy" at best. I only suggested the place because we were heading to the museum and wanted a bite to eat. It's an OK place. A bar and grill in town on the lake that has OK burgers. Other than that, not really noteworthy.
It's 3 1/2 hours from my house and I plan to be home NLT 5. I have a cousin that lives there, I might spend Saturday night there but I'm not leaving late Sunday because I have a Sunday evening family dinner.
If we can't make it Saturday, has anyone called the museum and asked that they open it on Sunday?
Guys, do what you like. Just providing some suggestions. Sunday is my most limited travel day.

Ok guys, after giving it some thought, I dont think I'm going to make it, this time. I've just got way too much on my plate, this month, and will already be running my butt off every weekend, on top of working overtime. These meetups aren't about me, though, so I'm going to go ahead and just go back to the original plan, since it sounded like the most fun.
So the September meetup will be Saturday, September 14th at Second Kick Motorcycle Works in Grove, OK. Plan to meet there at noon, and then the attendees can decide where to eat, after the museum. Have a fun time and a safe ride, guys! Hope to see you at the next one!
Also, I'm going to delete some of my earlier posts to avoid confusion about the place and time. John, you may want to do the same on the one with the Parrot Steakhouse address.
-
I might make it if timing chain holds out, but title says Vinita.

Second kick is in Grove , not Vinita . Tell Jim I said hi .
Dusty
-
Whoops. Title fixed.
-
Wednesday bump. It looks like we may actually get this Saturday off, so there's a good chance that I'll make it. How many others? If there are going to be more than a few of us, I'll call and let the guy know ahead of time.
-
I'm in

-
Well that is a long ways from my house but if I overnight it in Bernice I might be able to swing the ride to Grove on the 14 th Haa Haa

I'll be in Misery, er, Missouri on Saturday. Sorry to miss this one.
-
Definite strong maybe.
-
I'll try to follow Darren if he doesn't go too fast.
-
Well, notice was just posted, today. Apparently, management overruled my foreman and said they want my department working, this weekend. Which makes perfect sense, given that we're already slow enough that my partner and I spent all day sweeping floors, today, and will probably do the same, tomorrow. :violent1: According to my foreman, though, he's trying to get them to agree to only having the people who actually have projects to work on come in, so theres still a possibility.

Sounds like a good time overtime deal. Someone's cleaning up (more than the floors).

If it were a random one off, I'd be happy about it. Considering that weve been on 9 hour shifts plus 8 on Saturdays for most of the last 2 months, though, I'd rather have my frickin' weekend off.
-
Sheesh! wORK! I have to drive to hot springs in the morning, take about 100 pictures of a staircase and drive home.

Had a great time. Been too long seeing Leroy, Gary, Luap and Doug. Darren, Debra and I took a 425 mile round trip today, sun in our faces at 91 degrees. Good food and very nice Museum.

Nice pics, John. And was a good day riding up there with you and Debra.

Ya know, I shudda begged Leroy to take that big Kaw up for a spin. But I couldn't afford another ticket in eastern OK.
200hp supercharged.....wh woaaa
-
Glad it went well! I'll make the next one, hell or high water. Probably pick the date and location tomorrow, so keep an eye out.
-
How about Talimena state Park
-
It was nice meeting up at the second kick in Grove. Now I have that itch for riding again which is a great thing.

I sew what you did there. You know, just making that campout our meetup for next month may not be a terrible idea. Keep peoples' schedules from getting too crowded.
-
Ok, folks, time to take a poll. Do we want to keep this going through the winter? If there's interest, then I'll keep it up. If nothing else, we can drive instead of ride, just to keep the vibe going. What say you all?

Keep it going. There may be some nice days in November and December.

Keep this going? You mean the thing you've organized a couple times yet didn't make it to the event?
Yes, keep it going. People have cars too if it's too cold to ride. It's still nice to visit with like-minded folks.
-
You mean it gets to cold (or wet) to ride???
Hum...
:-)

Hey, I made it to the first one, haha. Unfortunately, life happens. The good news is that I'm about to go to night shift, which is 4 10s with a 3 day weekend, and Friday being the extra day when working overtime. So I shouldn't have any trouble making future ones work.
-
If we keep doing this west of my neck of the woods, (and I know we will) just as
well take the truck. A ride to Joplin and beyond is pretty dull anyway <shrug>

I'd be up for a meetup in Springfield too. I liked that Italian place you took us to.

Oh man, that does sound good. Pasta with garlic & olive oil, shrimp & scallops and a niiiiice glass of Chianti yum yum
I’d like to show you fellers some Southwest Missouri roads/sights. I realize it would probably have to wait until spring when we have longer days again, but I can show y’all some sweet backroads, it’ll be more of a ride than a chowdown but we won’t starve 😀 I can put you in the twisties all day long with very little 4 wheel traffic. As they say here in the Ozarks, we’ll go where the hoot owls screw the roosters 🐓 😄
-
Both of those ideas sound excellent! Im thinking Springfield in December. How about Fort Scott, KS for this month? Theres a pretty good joint there called Sparkey's. I'm thinking either the 9th or the 16th.

I need to tour the fort at Fort Scott any-hoo. I sold a residential elevator a couple of hundred yards from fort entrance, but I haven't been IN the fort. I'd like to see it.

Sorry time got away from me, guys. Work and kid have me running myself ragged. Anyways, how about Coffeyville, this Saturday, to see the big steam engine coming through? John, I think I saw you say you'd already planned on being there. What's the timeframe like?

Not at all. I just kind of fell into organizing these things by accident. Anytime that anyone has an idea for one, feel free to post it, here.
Anyone interested in meeting up in Coffeyville an hour or two in advance for a meal or drink?
-
I talked to Doug. He’s willin’

Sorry fellers,
I'm out for Saturday. Have to take a horse to the vet Saturday Morning, then was reminded I am attending a charity event Saturday Night.
No Covfefeville for me...

That's a bummer, Rocker. Hopefully, you'll be able to make the next one.
My dad's girlfriend lives down there, so I'll ask her about a good place to get a bite and beer, and post the location, tomorrow. If the train is rolling in at 4:30, how about planning to meet at 3? I'll probably drive, instead of ride, as I don't like riding these highways at night during deer season.

I’ll be in the F150. No Ridley for me :thumb:

Phelps' Hog Heaven is a good place for a bite and a beer, if BBQ sounds ok to everyone. I've been there a few times, and it's always been good.

That's the plan, actually. We're going to meet up for some grub and a brew, then go see the engine.

I wouldn't have a problem riding to Coffeeville, getting home is quite another thing with the deer as active as they are now and it's dark as the insides of a cow by 1800 hrs

How about a roll call? Who else is in?

...when I get this feeling, don't try to hold me back. I'll only leave you crying in the smoke along the track.

I'm in. Possibly "we're" in if momma is up to it. Us in the 4-states are very lucky that there is a wealth of places to go and see. Hard to narrow anything down, so yes a rotational thing would be cool. Would give people a good excuse to get off the couch.
Ideas
Missouri: Undercliff, Roaring River State Park
Arkansas: Oark General Store
Oklahoma: Talimena Drive restaurant (Skyline Cafe)
Kansas: Big Brutus (West Mineral), Invade Chet
Am in Arkansas and agree on Oark General Store. Beautiful ride and great food. Oldest General Store in Arkansas. Located on the TAT also so will see lots of dual sports.

Ok, folks. Been meaning to get around to this for a week or two but, ya know. Life. Anyways, Kballowe had an idea for a meet up, possibly an overnighter, at Eureka Springs, AR, this month. Any thoughts? Hopefully, he'll get in here and give some suggestions.

Suggestion #1 - New thread.
and, it doesn't have to be Eureka Springs but I was trying to get something that's closer to ME !

Just a thought , a separate thread will probably confuse the issue .

I'll tell ya what confuses the issue is that the title says "4 States Area Meetup - Nov 16th in Coffeyville, KS "

We could change the title to
"Playboy Models"
... and then everyone would read every post.
hahahahaaaaaaaa :thumb:

I’m confused.
-
Haha, sorry, fellas. I was only halfway through my mornin coffee when I remembered that I needed to make that post, and my half asleep brain forgot about changing the title. Fixed it.
-
Most trips towards MO are far enough for me to consider an overnighter. A lunch and back is pretty far, especially in foul weather. And it it's overnight, it needs to be in a location worth spending the night there.
-
Eureka is a destination worth an overnighter, if you have never been there. It is the off season, however. they use to roll up th sidewalks in winter, but most things are open now, i think.

I am definitely NOT sharing that room with YOU.
-
Ok, guys, I'll need some help on organizing this one. So people who are familiar with the area, let's start hearing about good places to stay and things like that. I may or may not make it to this one, as work just exploded.
-
Alright, guys. Now that we're past last year's insanity, time to get these really going. Guzzistaohn suggested The Hangar Kafe in Miller, MO, and it looks like a neat place. Several interesting things attached to/near it. Between the WG National at the beginning of may, my niece's graduation in the middle, and a buddy's belated bachelor party at the end, I'm thinking the first weekend of June. We could do Saturday the 6th or Sunday the 7th. Who's in, and which day would work best for folks?
-
I'm up for either day. The Hanger serves a good meal
-
I've been wanting to do a weekend in the Ark Ozarks since '19, the dates might be good, not sure of the place.......off the top of my head, maybe a maybe. Good discussion for CV.
