I seldom ever blow my motorcycle or car horns so I have no idea how long the horn has been broken. The first indication I had a problem was when I pushed the wrong button and the horn attempted to blow. It went eeeeee once and hasn't been heard from since. That was last summer and yesterday I decided to repair it.
I ran some test and I'm sure it's the horn. I have the horn from the K75S that I hit the deer with four years ago. Not sure it works as I never blew that horn either.
Question. Will a BMW horn work on my SP? They look exactly alike. Do you think anyone will notice that the horn is blowing in German.
Thanks,

Sure it will work , just don't tell Chuckie ;D

If you never use your horn you will never know.

I replace the two "corna patetici" on my V7 with great honkin' BMW horns from a K100. They worked perfectly. Make sure that the SP has a horn relay with 20A contact ratings. If not, there are special DPST Fiamm relays available (one contact to each horn) for dual horn setups.

Should I use a relay made in Germany or will any 20A relay work?

I put a Harley horn on my Suzuki and it worked just fine. ;-T

That's because they are both made in Japan. ;D

I put the horn from a Triumph Spitfire into my VW Rabbit. Was that wrong?

Did it make the electricity run backwards Eric ? :D

Nope, negative ground all around, but years later I felt unusually guilty about circumcising that lovely little Spitfire. Some things just aren't meant to be, I guess.

Well, yeah, but it will add a second to your quarter mile time, and it'll handle bad.

the bmw will not be as melodious as the MG horn; it will shout ACHTUNG instead of pardon me
-
That's what I was afraid of. Horns tend to piss people off, or they do me, and that the last thing I want on a motorcycle. So I had better stick with "pardon me". ;D The truth is that when I want to blow the horn I can't remember where the button is and by the time I find it I've forgotten why I wanted to blow the dam thing.

just kidding, the horn on my R80 is no more annoying than the twin horns on my V7

Horn must stick out straight sideways!

I have a low note Buick horn. Whenever I use it I just look around like someone else is blowing it, in the confusion I just drive off. Mike

Grating the starter works as well, don't ask me how I know.

That's how I discovered my horn was broken. ;D I was trying to start the motorcycle. ::)

If it went "eeeeee" the tuning set screw is probably not in the right position.
Put in some ear plugs and bench test it with 12V, adjust the set screw for maximum annoyance and Loctite it in place....Presto!

Put a bicycle bell on. You ought to see the reactions you get in heavy traffic. ;D

It plays "la cucaracha."

I think most of us know the reason...
I put a seventies Cadillac D note horn on my Eldo. It was nice.
-
Not sure, from a value received point of view, fixing the horn is worth the effort. We did away with "inspections" years ago so I have no need for a horn. Anyway, Monday morning, noon at the latest, I'll get right on it. ;D

Teutonic
two-tone-ic
toot-on-it
Nope. Won't fit. Either that or it loses something in the translation.
(apologies for the negativity)
