Why the 2007 Norge?
« on: May 12, 2019, 09:16:27 AM »
Whenever I see a Moto Guzzi Norge for sale, 90% of the time it's a 2007. Why? I believe that was it's first year and maybe that year they sold the most? Just curious why I don't see the Norge models after that for sale very often?

I’m my personal opinion if I were Norge shopping I would want a 2 valve bike. Good old school goose engine. 07 is a damn good bike from what I’ve read

I specifically wanted a 2-Valve Norge because, after reading about all the 4-valve issues,  I figgered the closer to an agricultural John Deere engine the better.   I had wanted one since the day they first came out some 11 years earlier.

Even knowing that the 2-valver has its own set of problems,

6 months ago I boughtr a 2007 Norge with 38,000 miles ...mostly 'cuz it was the first one available near me.   The price was right which allowed me to have some deferred maintenance put right.  It's now a fantastic desert cruiser that gives me 45+ mpg at any speed.

Here's a 16-page evaluation of the 2007 Norge (.pdf) from Motorcycle Consumer News (June 2007) for your pleasure:

Even though its 88 hp is meager by all modern standards, the GPS Max Speed box usually shows something over 100 mph after every run.  Easy peasy and plenty fast enough for a geezer like me.

It takes 12 years to get sick of a 2VPC Norge..
That’s why the ‘07 ones are up for grabs now. No one wants mine though,  it’s got too many k’s on it.
BTW.
Turned over 165,000 today coming out of Switzerland...

I own a 1200 Sport 2v.  Sort of a Norge without as much fairing.  Great engine and tranny.  Reliable.  And that two valve engine doesn't really feel agricultural ..... she spins up nicely when needed.  The last of the 2v big block engines may have been as good as they got.

2007 was a peak year for Guzzi production.  Norge was new.  Relatively speaking, there are more of them around than later years.

Sales and production crashed in 2008, and it took several years for Guzzi to claw itself back to 2007 numbers.  A feat accomplished with the V7 line beginning in earnest in 2009, while the CARC bikes remained at relatively low production.
