Reg/Rec upgrade for early Tontis
« on: November 25, 2019, 03:35:25 PM »
Hi All.

I'm currently building up a LeMans 2 and looking to replace the separate regulator and rectifier to a more modern combo unit - the bike will be a special and has an m-unit so lookign to reduce clutter and components where possible.

I have checked with Euromotoelectrics who's offering wont support a charge light - https://www.euromotoelectrics.com/product-p/edl-voltrect.htm.

I have read that a bosch RR45 style (i believe these came on the 1100 cali's and sports?) may work and support the charging light.

Does anyone have any experience with these, and any wiring diagrams?

I'm not sure what years the Bosch RR45 was used. My 95 Cali. 1100, my dad's early EV, my '01 EV and my ex brother in law's 96 1100 Sport all had the Ducati alternator and regulator. You could always install one of these https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.amazon.com/Kuryakyn-4218-Black-Battery-Gauge/dp/B000GU5WNO&ved=2ahUKEwiQxduWsYbmAhUErlkKHT85DeAQFjABegQIChAB&usg=AOvVaw2qE5IbpjVmyFdm0WOHhzLt

Rr45 is the replacement for your bike  that uses light and comes with wiring diagram
But not the same as Ducati perm magnet one (on cali and sport 1100)

I also didn’t want no light (25 years ago) but could only buy honda solid state that used no light.
Fitted loads (mod to alternator to insulate both brushes), none have failed,
Now I think charge light is overated but use rr45 if you want one, other numbers may be used but for 1970’s BMW’s and Guzzis is the clue (Bosch alternator excited rotor) not perm magnet. Wiring diagram will show light if compatible.

Ok thanks all, I will give the RR45 a go, and will be mounting it to the front of the frame above the horn, if it doesn't stay cool there then it was never going to work.

+1 for Sachse the stuff is brilliant, I have a combined trigger unit and reg/rec board on my LM1000 engine and it's been great.

Volker's death was huge shock to me I corresponded with him on a few different things and he was always quick to reply and you could just tell he was a good guy
