Campo Road Loop...
« on: February 07, 2015, 10:11:27 PM »

I had a little time to head out to do the Campo Road Loop today…

A short dirt lane trek down toward the border and just past the Border Patrol Station.

Old Historic Rte 80 that runs parallel, give or take to the new I-8...

Through the fence of the Motor Transport Museum…  I’ll go back to take the grand tour on another Saturday.

Wow, that's cool. I've driven through there SO MANY TIMES. I grew up in San Diego, so that whole Hwy. 8 stretch was a place for camping when I was a kid.

I remember when they built the 8. That was a lot of broken granite.
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

You could have gone on a blast with me...  Next Saturday...?  I would like to stop and look around at the Museum

This is my first winter in San Diego.   It feels like I'm cheating!  :bike

You are cheating... I feel the same way, while my Wife is back in Maine taking care of teh snow removal...  She is a hardy New England Girl.

Invite open to you as well if you want to go for a blast.

The Rt 94, Honey Springs Road, Lyons Valley Road, Jamul ride is one of my favorites.

Lemme know.

Best,
Rob

I love 94-80 ride and just did it last Thursday. I live in Temecula and from the 80 take the 8 east to the S22 (Butterfield stage coach line) back home, total loop about 270 miles and on the Stelvio can make it easily without having to refuel anything but myself.

Nice, I love some of these back roads.

Thinking that sending the Stevlio back to Maine oculd have been a mistake but I use it for the fowl weather motorcycle so as not to get the Harley too dirty...  :D

You must have a later Stelvio, I cannot get 270 miles out of a tank with the '09 Stelvio.

See yo on the backroads...  :bike   We should all meet up and and go ride up to Lake Elsinore and down Ortega Highway...

Id like that, I'm always up for a ride and available most days to take a spin. My Stelvio is a 13 so 300 miles is easy on a tank.

Jim.

Not sure I want to run out to Borrego with the forecast of the Santa Anna's kicking up...  Probably the ride up to Elsinore will have to wait or at least I will need to watch the weather before hand.

Besides, Thursday is a work day for me.

Another time then, I don't really have issues with the wind on the Stelvio probably because with a full tank its about as heavy as a tank.

Thanks! John

Cool,
Just so you will know, I plan to stop at the Motor Transport Museum in Campo to look around and photograph some trucks, you are welcome to stay and we can ride back or if that kinda thing bores you then you could do your own thing.

Depending on how long I stay, the ride back could include a loop over to Buckman Springs Road up to Old Hwy 80 or there are some interesting looking roads over toward Morena Lake but I do not know whether they are tar or dirt and I further cannot tell whether one can continue on through at the dam at the Lake...

Neither the Griso nor the V11 Cali will like a long stretch of dirt, especially if there is any soft sand or silt.  If I had a trail bike out here I would gone to investigate before now.

Bear Valley Road is more than certainly dirt/gravel but again, I dunno.    It would be great to be able to navigate over to Japutal Valley Rd and down to Lyons Valley Rd back to Honey Springs and back in to town.

If not, we can stay on the main drag and loop up through Pine Valley, Guatay and on down through the Cleveland National Forest all that.

I am living in Chula Vista so I can PM the location to you and we could meet there.  Let me know if where you are near SDSU is easier to meet at and we could try that.

Now, I usually work in the morning on Saturdays until right around 1000.  We can strike out right after that.

The valve check and adjust is not a big ta-do on those engines...  The garage has three motorycles in it now so the manger is full, one will be leaving soon though...

I really wish I had a YZ out here.  Some of the dirt trails that I see while out riding make me yearn for off roading.  But alas, no way to haul one out to those spots if I did have one here... n :(
