Thanks, that was inspirational. A few years ago while still in college my son worked as a salesman at Malcolm Smiths dealership and sold a new R1 to an 80 year old. Hell yes.
OK- so a warning first that this post could contain philisophical content. What makes this guy so cool is because he is the antithesis of hipster. Unlike a young man who is still trying to find himself and who in so doing may adopt certain affectations, our hero here IS that guy. He DID race against Ago. He DID wrench on his own bikes and ride them to the race. He still rides them on the same runs. He is so inherently the sh*t that he can afford to be humble and self effacing. In my mind, the true essence of cool here leads back to Popeye's great contribution to this debate: "I y'am who I y'am and that's all that I y'am." This man had a self awareness early on and pursued his passion. By the looks of it, he pretty much got it in a headlock and wrestled it to the mat. My thought is that this is NOT a "bucket list" type of thing. Plenty of people feel that they must go out and experience certain things- that's all well and good. Certainly, the wealthy will always win that competition. However, what we're talking here is a state of being. I have no doubt that Bhuddists would be right there to agree that this man has lived his life with a rare honesty. In fact, I can see the Dalai Lama jumping on a scooter and following him up those hills.
We should all be so lucky.. ;-T
It's the motorcycles in his blood that keep him young.
After seeing that, everyone should want a Moto Morini with clip-ons now!Lannis
Some luck, some genetics, some walking in those hills, and some eating a "Mediterranean" diet .... YOU'RE not far behind, YOU tell us how you make your own luck!Lannis
I *have* watched my diet. EVOO is our main fat .....
I've started using that wherever I can. Doesn't do much in bread or high-temperature frying, but for most other uses it's good stuff!Lannis
We don't eat bread (Carbs.) or do any high temp frying. Exercise is good, too. Where's my beer?? ;D
