Help! CARC drive part ID needed!
« on: October 24, 2017, 03:06:27 AM »
I just got done following Leafman's excellent tutorial on servicing the swing arm and shock linkage bearings on CARC bikes, due to lack of lube from the factory [ http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=66579.msg1021807#msg1021807].  He demonstrated on a Stelvio, and I have a 2015 GRiSO, but most everything is the same.

It seems I am missing the circlip on the gearbox output shaft that holds the CARC drive forward coupling in place.  I cannot find this part in either the shop manual or the parts catalog.  In a post on GRiSO Ghetto, I was advised by the esteemed and wizardly Pete Roper not to ride the bike until said circlip is installed.

I need the help of those in the know... is this a common auto-parts store item, or was it forged in Italy, quenched in blood, and given an MG part number.

I've been trying to post images here of what I'm talking about, but am unable to do so.  If you look at Leafman's thread, there are two pics that show the gearbox output shaft; first is without the circlip, the second one WITH it.  They are pics #27 and #28 in the thread.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Best regards - Don

I'll take a pic or two tomorrow and post them up. As I said on the Ghetto if yo have pushed the  cardan shaft onto the output shaft on the gearbox with a bit of vigour and it won't pull off again the circlip will of seated. If it slides on and off like joyful fornication you have a problem.

Pete

PS. The circlip isn't listed as a separate part.

The circlip is inside the cardan shaft coupling, not on the gearbox outgoing shaft. Just hit the cardanshaft, and it moves in place.

OK, my mistake. I'll get pics tomorrow. Makes sense as the shaft is listed as a single item.

It looks like Don is asking before he got things apart.

Paul, I already disassembled/reassembled the swingarm last weekend but had a nagging feeling about the clip.  That's why I posted here and the Ghetto.  I'm taking it apart again this weekend to ensure it is there and more importantly, make sure the driveshaft is securely fastened to the output shaft.  It isn't now.

While I had it disassembled, I looked in the shaft and all around the area in case the clip had popped off when I originally removed it.  Found nothing.  In retrospect, I shouldn't have reassembled everything until all was accounted for, but I wanted to get the job done.

Now I get to do it twice!

Thanks to you and Pete for helping me out!

Sorry, didn't have time to get pics today. Something to do with a mate and his KTM, (Keeps Taking Money) and driving said POS to Sydney where he proved his arsiness by leaving the ignition on for the trip in the van resulting in a flat battery.

It went downhill from there....... :boozing:

I really do like beer!
