Well, you know what they say ...

"If it hurts when you do that ... DON'T DO THAT!"

I-95 has a southbound lane.   Get out of that frozen wasteland into some civilized territory.   And I say this as a native Virginian that has already seen WAY too many Yankees come in here.

Just want to offer my fellow rider an alternative .....  ;-T

Lannis

Frequently I ask myself why I don't just pack up and move south, because that's exactly what I want to do. My wife, on the other hand, has no interest in leaving Maine, and is convinced that by moving,  the lives of my children will be ruined by upsetting their feeling of home. I was born in Georgia, and my familymoved back to Baltimore when I was 3. I lived there until I was 25, then came to Maine and met my wife. I also lived in Athens, GA for a couple of years in my early 20s. I feel like GA winters are just about right. It cools off, and you might even see a dusting of snow now and then, but a 60 degree day is never far away. On a good year, MD isn't bad either, though some years can be pretty tough. I don't have anything nice to say about winters here in ME, except that eventually, they do end.

Jenn took a phone interview for a job in Phoenix.

I believe it was equal money for literally 4x the amount of TIME on service in the hospital.

They wanted to fly us out to talk about it .. But she passed....

@Muley -- yeah, humidity makes both hot and cold extra miserable. Here in the winter, at the mouth of the Sacramento River delta, we get ground fog, aka "tule fog". It's even worse in the Central Valley, visibility zero on I5 or 99. 35 to 40 degrees in that, at 90+ percent humidity is far more miserable than below zero when the humidity freezes out. On the other side, dry heat isn't too bad until it gets over 100. Wet heat is miserable at any time. No advanced civilization ever started in a swamp…

I can't imagine the cold most of you guys survive in. Here I hate the winter that brings frost and -3C. That's way cold for me. I love Summer with 25-40C days and 15-20C nights.
It must be relative and we must acclimatize to our surroundings but maybe we need to be born in a place to feel the most comfortable.
Or maybe we need to be born in the cold and then move to a bit warmer to truly enjoy the climate.
Don't know but I'm seriously glad not to cope with all that snow and shit.

That is a beautiful sight.  I wouldn't mind living in the great north woods of Wisconsin.  The hard part s convincing my wife (who was born in Wisconsin) to move that far north. :D  I love the quiet and solitude of the woods covered in heavy snow.

Well, it just warmed up a degree since I got up, it's now a balmy -2 outside. Looks like it might get all the way up to 10 by noon. Forecasters say that Wednesday's high will be +1F. I have plenty to do in the shop, I'll crank up the heat and the music and knock out a couple projects.

My wife was born and raised in western New York state in a log home and she enjoys needling her parents about how the snow would blow in through the logs onto her bed when she was a young one.  She turned into a fantastic skier and likes her home a cozy 55F in the winter (that's 13C to you ferners).

As fun as that looks, with my 4 level lower  back fusion, and knees that sound like rice krispies when I walk, not sure that is a good idea for me.   ::) :(

Maybe so, but people who live close to the Tropic of Capricorn don't have to add tons of layers to happily survive.

We have an "Arctic Assault" bearing down on Houston:  below freezing temperatures.  Almost as much panic as a hurricane.  Bring your tomato plants inside, cover the palm trees, and no leaving small poodles outside.

Mid-70s in Oceanside today.  Rode the '03 Stone Touring over to Oceanside Marina, spent an hour on a bench, reading a history book, watching boats.  My wife was born in Columbus, Wisconsin and scooted out of that lovely but cold winter environment on completion of UW Madison.  Cold weather and snow are very "invigorating" but only to watch from a distance of 2000 miles, for us.

I hate winter. It sucks when you have to worry about stepping outside your door and slipping on ice and breaking your ankle. If I could only teleport my work, family and friends south for a few months every year…

I saw the first humpy of the season today and at the same time the first gawker.
Coming back from Kona I saw a few more spouts and a lot more gawkers.
The gawkers milling about the road are bad enough but I hate the ones who slow to 30 or 40 in a 55 mph road and serpentine their lane and sometimes part of the other and the shoulder.
Usually the humpies are here in Dec. and sometimes in Nov.
I think the Japanese have been eating way more than their share of them.

The fact that the Japanese eat any at all strikes me as disgusting and akin to cannibalism.  I've wondered if it would be legitimate for a nation to declare war on an industry.

Well, not a fan of Winter, snow or cold.  I figure I can get on a plane and visit same when I'd like.  Unfortunately I married a Buffalo Girl and she thinks Syracuse (and the grandchildren's location) is the place to retire to.  Oh well; as a positive, it is supposed to be 0 Thursday when I go in for my first cataract surgery - maybe my eye will freeze in place eliminating the need for numbing needles. ;D  I like the snowman on the deck.
