Oh dear. I feel for you guys.

On Saturday I forced myself to go for a quick squirt to Akaroa for a coffee; about 120 mile round trip. Over the Port Hills and around the Rim road (goes around the lip of a (hopefully) extinct volcano). The temp dropped down to 68 degF, but as I dropped down Gebbies Pass it climbed back up to 82. Over a couple more hills to Akaroa, coffee and cake yakking with another motorcyclist there while gazing across the harbour under a cloudless sky. Back on the bike and took the long way home which has a few more hills to be ridden over.  A quiet  before knocking up my world famous Muzzabugers for tea.

It's a tough job but someone has to keep the eagle flying! ;) :D

Make sure you look at the "Heated Grips v Hippo Hands" etc posts to keep yourself from hypothermia when temps dip below 70F.  NZ is near top of places I hope to spend time in before it's my time.  My wife would want to know, "any unusually large spiders?"  Australia seems to have a fine collection of nasties but I don't hear about NZ's nasties.  Is this correct Kiwi... Farm buildings and surrounding farms look like Wisconsin?

My wife would want to know, "any unusually large spiders?"  Australia seems to have a fine collection of nasties but I don't hear about NZ's nasties.  Is this correct Kiwi... "Bob's Your Uncle! - hope you didn't ride with your jandles or togs and took a break when you were too knackered - Cheers! " N

We have the katipo, quite small, found on some beaches, related to the redback but nowhere near as poisonous. It can however make you sick. We are remarkably free of nasties, no snakes but Oz exported their white tail spider which can cause problems for some people.

Yup, "Bob's your uncle" is indeed correct, at least among the older residents of this fair land. (Snaps red suspender belts)

I am an ATTGATT sort of guy. Even in the heat I wore my armoured suit. Boots always, definitely no jandles. I am not a "thongnong".

Believe me, you would love it out here. Touring the South island especially is just brilliant, especially on a bike.

A bit over an hour I don't need no steenkin break.

Muzz ,
Spent a wonderful day with a Kiwi couple mid 1970s . they were working their way across America , staying in state parks . The thing that most bothered them was our number of creepy crawlies and snakes , of course we don't have many compared to that funny place across the ditch from N.Z.  ;D  Thunder UP !

Doug was over again today to pick up some cherry for turning.  Only -10c, so nice and mild.  He's abandoned the chains and added an off-road tyre which seems to work quite well.

and a short video: http://youtu.be/-_lbOio2S40  (including a bit wiv a dog!) (edit- video format now changed so it works properly - sorry 'bout that!)

the problem with your video is you posted an MP4 file witch is a compressed file and not really directly viewable.. it's taking forever for me to get thru it.. where it's hosted should have converted it.. if you upload MP4's to Youtube they convert it to a .mov file that plays out fast.

Thanks fotoguzzi - I had just jammed it on to my server, and hadn't realised it would be a problem.  It's now on Youtube at:

Sunny and 55F today. Spent it working on the Boulder house, clearing it out to rent. Then . . .   fired up the old Triumph. Started on the second kick, idled and ran sweetly up to Longmont. I love this bike and it sure looks good next to the T.

Tomorrow it's supposed to be 68F. One more week down here and then I head back to Vail for the World Alpine Championships. It's a good life . . .

Two days, two rides on the 03 Stone Touring.  83 yesterday and 75 today.  This state has its problems, but in the main, a lack of good weather is not one of them.  Oh, lest I appear gloating--I'm not--the roads in San Diego County mostly are frantic freeways and otherwise uninspiring secondary roads.  It usually requires droning on the 8-lanes before a short sprint on the less traveled roads.  Inspiring weather meets uninspiring roads.

You'll get your revenge once Summer comes.
