"The Last Supper" (from Japan that is!!)
« on: January 16, 2017, 04:19:35 PM »
My colleague, Sugimoto-san took me to a real, traditional sushi place last night owned by his friend.  It was a special treat!! :thumb:

Leaving Japan today for the very long journey back to the good ol' USA!!   I don't mind traveling abroad for business, but it is always good to come home!

I understand the uncooked fish bits, but what were the fried things?

And what sort of rib was that?   Looked a bit "rare" on the end closest to me.

I'm all for new and interesting things, I generally enjoy them, but the  symbiotes living in my GI tract aren't always as tolerant and diverse as they might be when faced with a "foreign" cuisine ....

I am sure that was delicious.  But it's not for me.

Yes, I have traveled a bit, never (OK, not too often ) let food scare me, and I certainly never insulted a host.

That said, I remain an unabashed (and unashamed) Euro- and Americophile, at least WRT cuisine.

My general rule -- and one that I have never "disobeyed" without later, and often significant, regret -- is that I avoid food that originates in most any way "west of Kauai and east of Ankara."

I do make an exception for Australia and New Zealand, but mostly because of Rose Byrne.

That "rib looking thing" was actually the cheekbone of a Blue Fin Tuna, and it was roasted, and the meat quite tasty!! :thumb:

Who is Rose Byrne?

NZ food is Euro/ GB  in nature unless we come up with something unique and very good in which case it instantly becomes Australian. (eg, the pavlova)
