Swanee on EV
« on: May 14, 2022, 08:01:30 PM »
Probably the best handlebar fairing ever made if you care more about function over form. A friend gave me the fairing years ago. I put it away knowing I would use it one day. Today was the day to work out a install plan. Not to bad if you have mounts and a 7/8 handle bars, but this ev has 30mm. Plus I wanted to make it easy to swap back to a smaller shield and keep this one for multi week touring and winter. Plan is to use the factory mount points which will help ease of replacement and keep clamps off the bars.

Fist order was to make a mount that was missing.  You’ll notice the new one is longer which will come in handy. I ended up making two long rods.

Once happy with the lengths and clear on how I was mounting it was time for more shaping. Lots of heat and hammering
Make sure to leave it a bit thicker thanks needed so when you polish out the hammer marks and clean the edges it’s still strong enough.

Once the mounting hole was drilled everything cleaned up nice and seems to work well.

Got the height worked out so the hand grips are covered. With the bars raised up the fairing had to set up taller than normal. The bottom mounts are just stap and the need some love before they are ready for prime time. That will be work for another day.

The windshield will need to be cut down, most likely replaced. I put a gustafsson on dads and it is much thicker which adds to the rigidity of the fairing. Looks good on the bike as well. We went with a bronze tint.

best performing fairing/shield on a Cali-bike. I have one on my 96 Cali i but plan to sell the bike. If and when I do I'll remove the Swanee and put it on  my EV that has a oem Sport Shield.

Function over looks!

Looks good.

I was able to locate some 30mm clamps that I was able to adapt. I like the way you have it. I would only worry about not being able to adjust it a little.

I can still adjust up and down and change the angle with the lower brackets. One I’m sold on the fit then I want it to be fixed so as I mount it and take it off the fit doesn’t change.

Purty is as purty does.  I have many miles behind one, and as far as I'm concerned, it is the best handlebar fairing ever.  :thumb:
