Rattle At 2K RPM
« on: April 11, 2021, 07:55:53 AM »
There’s a mad rattle when i’m at 2K RPM that sounds like a bag of empty drinks cans, coming from this genera area...

Is this a common thing? I remember someone mentioned a vibration where you feel your right foot to numb.

Maybe I forgot to tighten something?

I would look at all of the exhaust plumbing around there first. There isn't much else in that area that I can think of that would rattle. I guess someone could have had it apart and not properly spaced the swingarm bearings. Pretty unlikely though.

The universal joint is on the other side, if you have a center stand put it on there and rotate the back wheel, reef on the swing arm too.
Is it a tinny rattle or more of a clunk,
Wayne is probably right, exhaust.

I hope you are not riding at 2000 rpm, any time spent at this engine speed under load is close to if not lugging the engine. Guzzi's are happiest above about 3500 rpm. If this is happening at a standstill while free revving the engine, clutch lever pulled to bar you are probably hearing the clutch plates rattle, lever out could be slop between clutch plates and input hub on transmission or play in transmission, dogs, etc. on shafts.

Should be a rubber cushion for the retracted sidestand.  Sometimes they fall out.

Rear wheel bearings. Use a wooden lever between the swingarm and the tire and gently lever the wheel to find the movement. You won't normally feel it by just grabbing the wheel and trying to shake it.

Slap the end of the muffler with the flat of your hand sharply. You can often replicate a rattle if it’s in the muffler

Thanks, i'll test that.

It happens just as i'm going through 2000, in 1st, 2nd gear, no lugging

I had a similar noise that drove me crazy (ier)  It ended up being a tweaked crash bar.
