So... everything before the camera didn't actually happen ? Hmm , that does explain a few things

  Dusty

It's just that there's no PROOF it ever happened. (worth a thousand words they say )  Maybe we should get you a camera

I'll go out and look, I'm too close to town to get good night sky photos. We are having a good clear night and cool temps, took the old LeMans out for a flogging, she sure likes to fill her lungs with cool night air.

Several years ago a friend bought a new movie camera to take on a long trip we were taking . He shot hour upon hour of video , most of it was so boring we only watched about 3 minutes

We saw 2 satellites and 1 meteor.  We were going for the Space Station also, but the ISS was 10 degrees above NNW....(behind the trees!)   It was early though....about 9:15 - 10:00pm.

I saw two.

I usually don't ride a night, but earlier in the evening I went for a ride and it was quite fun, even the slab.

I went out about 2 AM with my camping bedroll and laid it out on the grass aligned with Perseus in the northeast.   Very clear and moonless.

I counted about 20, some pretty good-sized, in the hour or so I was able to stay awake.   No way I could keep my eyes open that time of night, lying comfortably under the stars, so I went in.   Woke up about 4:30 to answer a call of nature and went back out, saw a couple more.

Pretty good display compared to a "normal" night, but not the shower of fire that the entertainment news hyperventilates about ....

70/hour in western NC from 2am to 3am.  Plus 4 'sporadics' not associated with the Perseids.

On Aug 13, about 2:15 to 2:45 am, I claim I saw about 10.

Some nice streaking.  A couple looked like falling leaves.  One just sat in one place and glowed dim to bright to dim and out.

If nature calls again this am, I will go out and view again.

I launched into squally weather with fog and made for the top of Harbor Mountain.  Between the showers were things we call 'sucker holes' -- clear spots in the overcast that sucker you outside and then go away.  The fog wouldn't leave though.  All my shooting was done through a layer of ground fog.  Most of the time it looked like this:

But when there was a hint of clearing, I kept the camera busy.  With meteors zipping merrily about (I saw about 35), I shot about 60 frames of night sky with the camera safely pointed away from any falling objects.

Then I got lucky with a single frame.  Hardly the money shot, but it's the proof Gibbs was looking for:

Two meteors and an aircraft in the same pic.

It starts getting too bright for night pics @ about 3:AM.  It's definitely too bright by 3:30, so I left the mountain than and got home about 4:AM.  At about 2:30 the clouds abruptly vacated, although the ground fog remained.  Behind the clouds was this:
