NGC fresh ground coffee

We ran out of our Eight-O-Clock beans and so did the stores close to home. The only brand left was 1 bag of Dunkin' Donuts. The DD company should be ashamed of putting their name on such a horrible offering. Grey water from the boat probably tastes better. Thanks for reading. I feel better-barely.

So sorry to hear! This morning we had Kenya AA with some Tanker Fuel (50% more caffeine) mixed in. Both along with others come from a roaster in Wichita.

I love coffee! It is one of my basic food groups. Often, it is my breakfast. However, freshly ground beans are a distant memory. (Verismo and Keurig pods are what I usually use.) I need to get myself another grinder and a French press...

I'll drink any coffee swill... but my wife... it has to be Starbucks latte stuff.  If she put her starbucks money into a retirement account, she would have quite a treasure!  But I won't tell her that!  :thewife:

A couple of mugs of Eight o Clock Columbian Peaks straight from the grinder starts every day.  After that, their Decaf is good too.  Asheville is a coffee as well as beer center, so there are lots of fancy, tasty beans but Eight o Clock is the standard for us.

Our Sam's has replaced the local Boquete (roasted in Charlotte) with Pablo's Pride Guatemala.  I haven't tried it yet but I've checked the dates and at least the first shipment is less than a month old.  I've heard good things about Don Pablo's so I'm hopeful. $10 for 2lbs.

Nick, I tried them all, and IMHO Penny Cup is the best of the lot. Mountain Air Roasting is very good as well.  I have served a lot of Dynamite & Beanworks & Counter Culture, but Penny Cup is the tops.

We have a bunch of coffee roasters in our area, but my favorite is Kickapoo Coffee from Viroqua. They have some single origins but I regularly buy a blend, Driftless Dark. I hand grind a few tablespoons first thing in the A.M. and brew it up in a Moka Express. One cup in the morning with maybe a shot of espresso (a Nespresso) in the afternoon as a quick refresher is all I need. The coffee can be had online and I recommend it highly.

I almost hate to post this, but full disclosure is required.

We went on a long motorcycle trip in 2012 with a couple that were Coffee Gurus Extraordinaire, carrying their own roasted beans and brewing it with a filter pot or a french press each morning and evening.

For the next several years, we tried all sorts of exotic coffees, at different roasts and different grinds, keeping track of the ones we liked most (Guatemalan, Ethiopian, Kenyan, etc).   Didn't matter to us that the beans were $18 or more a pound; the local coffee roaster gave us a 15% discount for volume and we were happy.

But then we were at our son's house (also an enjoyer of coffee) and he served us coffee that was as good as anything we'd ever had.   "What IS this?   Can you get it around here?" we said.

Sure enough, "Dunkin Doughnuts" original blend "medium roast" whole beans at $9.50/pound.

We started out going to the next town to buy it so no one would see us, like a Porsche owner learning to read upside down so he could use the Volkswagen parts book at the counter without anyone noticing.

But now we've gotten over that, and have made peace with ourselves ....

+1 on this. Been drinking 8Oclock for years. On the DD, I've found that you have to use 2X the amount of coffee close to boiling water (ever notice how hot DD is from the shop?) and a FINE grind works best.

Funny, in Port Hawkesbury NS we were having dinner, and I asked the waitress what coffee they were serving as it had some very nice subtle flavors.

It took a while to get the answer-Folgers. Had been sitting too long on the heater.

The freshness and grind are as important as the bean.  That said, I use the "San Francisco" french roast from Cosco.  $20/3#.  Grind only what you need.  Makes a great latte!

I'm drinking cheap Albe's pre-ground in the can here, done in an ancient.  BUNN drip machine.  This is a plea for help.
