Question for Le Mans III owners
« on: March 09, 2024, 06:52:58 PM »
I'm considering a bike that I haven't seen yet nor have I been  able to talk to the seller yet. A friend had one years ago and I seem to remember that the upper triple clamp had bosses foe attaching handlebars. Also, I know someone on this forum has posted pictures quite often of his LM 3 that has handlebars mounted. So, am I remembering correctly or not? Thanks
Steve M

Yes, top clamp on my LM3 has 2 upper holes drilled but bottom ones are not drilled, dash mounts to ones drilled.

My III had handlebars when I bought it. I went back to clip on's. (also ditched the Corbin saddle) Swan neck bars are the way to go if you want something taller.

I have 2 of them both converted to normal bars using the standard top yoke

Thanks Gino! I did remember correctly then. Could you post a picture or two when you get a chance? Thanks

Thanks Gino and John. Lovely bikes and countryside. And the bars look like a good functional solution.

I put Verlicchi adjustable swan clipons on mine.
Painted them black & they blend it nicely.

The 850 is such a sweet motor, it would be a shame to not be able to enjoy.

Mine also came with handlebars instead of the clipons. Mounting handlebars messes with the gauges and how they mount - sets the gauges higher. I'd recommend staying with the clipons - they're not as low as most clipons due to their rise plus the height of the steering head. They're more like handlebars with no rise, or very little.

When I had my III I put on super bike bars and a Cobin Gunfighter. Work well for me for many years.

Thanks for the ideas and opinions everybody! The swan necks sound like a good option to consider too. Now I need to decide whether to buy the bike or not. It's getting complicated because I'm second in line now for Bens Duc 860GTS.
Hmmm, choices.
