This tip was good enough to pass along, it’s about how to preserve the contents of tubes of stuff like silicone that tend to set up before I can use it up. It’s simple, I should have thought of it. Short vid

Good tip. I heard about that before, but never used it. Might just start.

I'll have to try that one.

Have that problem with boat caulk. Will have to try it. The video also proves that one cannot handle caulk of any kind without getting it on ones fingers and hands...

Tried that a few times but it never worked. Still ended up with the silicone plug at the end of the tube.

Water vapor can chemically transport through the plastic film, so this will work for short times, but not over the course of a year. Aluminum foil works better.

Geez, I always just poke a fat nail in it. No vapors get past a nail and nail head.

Aah! That's interesting. I would never have thought of that.

I use tube silicone in studio for mold making, sometimes by the case. When I cut the tip off a tube, I throw it into the box. If there is silicone left in the tube, I stick that cut off tip point first back into the tube to seal it. Not my idea but is cheap works pretty well.

If you wet your hand/fingers with soapy water, it doesn’t stick to you. Plain water works ok, but water mixed slippery with dish detergent or naphtha soap is what I use. As long as your skin is wet with this, you can almost handle it like clay or play dough. That how I press silicone into place over clay to make a silicone mold.
