« on: April 24, 2019, 06:55:51 PM »
No rattle, so we think it was a Gopher Snake...because it had a distinctive "lump" in its stomach!   Rodent control - - Mother Nature style!  Beautiful creature!! :thumb:

Just another beautiful day in...."The Wildlife Corridor!"   :thumb:

We get three types of snake in our yard. Red bellied blacks which are venomous but they have tiny fangs and being very primitive are slow. Tigers, which can be fiercely territorial and aggressive in spring and are pretty nasty if you get bitten and Eastern Browns which are among the top five most venomous snakes in the world! Get bit by a brown and you stay bit for a long time, it takes months, sometimes years to recover. Some people never do.

All three can kill you stone dead but generally as long as you take the right action if you get bit and aren't so unlucky as to have a fang strike a major vein all are survivable. Death by snakebite is pretty rare nowadays.

Only in the zoo.  I'm sure someone has smuggle them in.  Big fines for an invasive species.  Once in awhile we'll have brown snakes that sneak aboard Air Force transports that land in Honolulu from Guam.  Most times they're dead.

Couple of years ago in Arkansas I rode up on a diamond back sunning in the middle of the road. My buddy caught up to me and stopped where the snake was between us and ha asked “what the @#$& are you doing in the middle of the road??” He never saw the rattler till I pointed at it

I have a little 14" or so bull snake hanging around which is fine with me for rodent control. He will probably grow fast however.

I walked into my shop one evening. Had a Dowco cover over my bike and saw that the tie strap was no longer tied. Just as I was reaching down to grab the tie down the "tie down" turned into a blacksnake. I did an impressive back jump.

I've killed three copperheads in the past couple years in close proximity to my house. I almost stepped on one of them and my dog almost got big bit another. I don't kill snakes as a norm but copperheads must die!!!

We had a king snake pay us a visit at our place in Fountain Hills Az last week, we had family down from Canada visiting, my brother in law went out the front door around 11:00 p,m, one night to find a pretty striped snake outside the front door. To say he was shocked was an understatement, sure got everyone's attention.

We have lots of non venomous snakes in this area...All are welcome outside of my house as are most but not all creatures...Our chickens chase after smaller snakes, one will grab it and they all fight over it while it's torn apart...Damn chickens are like little T Rex's....
