Title: Wildguzzi membership
Post by: Luap McKeever on December 02, 2022, 08:38:14 AM
We have recently surpassed 22,000 members signing up since the site was rebuilt in 2005. IMHO, that's incredible for such a small hand-built marque. Of course not all are active today, but in total signed up since October, 2005. That's over 100 per month on average.

Give yourselves a hand. When I built this thing, I had one mission in mind; "Provide a virtual campfire for friendly Guzzi/motorcycle discussion with the absence of greed and minimal controversy".

Happy holidays everyone,
Luap

Just goes to show how much interest Moto Guzzi generates.  I believe that if more multibrand dealerships would also carry Moto Guzzi there would be more people riding Moto Guzzi.  They just don't generate enough revenue for the one brand dealerships unless their customers rely on them for all maintenance and repairs.

I know I was skeptical about having two Guzzis in the garage instead of staying diversified because if Sloans goes away so will my resale value since many won't consider a bike without dealer support.

For sure. I'm sillily still daydreaming about a big block, water cooled Moto Guzzi with tons of technology.

Many years ago I had a Guzzi & a Beemer , I kept the BMW 7 sold the Guzzi  . Now I’ve got 2 Guzzi’s & no BMW  and I’m happier. The Guzzi community is similar to what the BMW group used to be , low pressure & fun . A lot of the roundel fans seem to be swept up in the corporate “image “ movement. God bless em. Guzzi’s have put the fun back in riding for me anyhow & I’m putting more miles on than before . See ya on the road  :thumb:

"The Guzzi community is similar to what the BMW group used to be , low pressure & fun ."

This quote says exactly what I felt at my first Guzzi Rally.  I was into Beemers until my first Guzzi in 2017.  I went to many BMW rallies.  In the late 90s and early 2000s, it was normal to see a lot of air heads and their owners.  Many were pretty colorful and road experienced characters.  Some of the bikes were pretty experienced and colorful too. Many riders came from the trades, especially machining and repair work.  As a result, some beautiful home made trailers and other items were around to see.  Also, it was a normal sight to see someone under a tree with his bike pulled apart.  The T-shirt said "simple by design".  Of course, there were always the newer oil head bikes as well and some bricks too.  I noticed it starting to change after the 2005 model year when, for one, the prices took a big jump.  We all now know that $25,000-$30,000 bikes are becoming common.  You can only fix these bikes with credit cards.  So, along with this, the rally attendees are also a different group now and many of those riders from that earlier time have aged out (or moved on the Moto Guzzi).

My first MG Rally was like a return to those earlier, more fun BMW days.  Several bikes in stages of tear down.  Lots of experienced riders.  Many really fun and unusual bikes. Lots of outgoing friendly people.  I think it really jump started my rallying interest.

This group is like what the originators wanted, a virtual rally that makes my riding much more fun and gets me through non-riding weather and for which I am incredibly thankful.

There was the MGCL on Topica and a couple of local lists there when I bought mine in 01. Like many early internet things, it didn't last long after that.

For those who are 'forgetful' you can set up a regular (weekly, monthly, annually) contribution via PayPal. Doing something monthly is a great way to help Luap's cash flow.

That's what I do. Rider magazine is $50+ and it only comes once a month. Wildguzzi is as often as you want as there is always a member posting something.
