Sport/Daytona/etc. Straight-Cut Gears Availability
« on: January 14, 2019, 06:12:33 PM »
Joe Caruso--British master machinist and he of HQ steel timing gear fame--asked me to spread the word regarding him making replacement gears for our straight-cut gearboxes; this is of interest to those who want to keep the three-dog straight gears. Is anyone in need?

Interested. Any idea what he'd be asking for a set?

I would be interested, depending on price.  Any idea what he wants for a set?  That Centauro stuff I got from Joe a few years go was excellent.

Interesting. I recently searched all over for gears for my Sport and none were available. Fortunately I found a guy, locally by my good luck, who specializes in fixing motorcycle transmissions. He welded up the rounded dogs on four of my gears and then re-cut them. Did a beautiful job and charged me $340. 30 years in the motorcycle transmission business.

It seems some trannys primarily suffer damage to 5th, while others with higher mileages have most gears pitted etc. I've asked Joe how much; I imagine the proper thing to do is for him to offer all five gears. I'll report back.

Right on my friend! I don't have any issues as of today with any of my bikes gearboxes, but I would love to have a complete gear set or two on the shelve, just in case!
