Mystic Seaport has a running V-12 Franklin PT boat engine. They built it from two dead engines that the Navy gave them. They trot it out for their annual marine engine show. What a sound!

I grew up in Mystic. The Seaport has come a long way. I went to Cub Scouts meetings at the directors house. We played on the C W Morgan before the start and during the early stages of her restoration. Hard to believe they can sail her now, she was sitting on the bottom in those days.

Bit too expensive for what it is but I got a second hand copy of this a long time back

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Aero-engined-Racing-Cars-at-Brooklands/dp/0854298673

Quite a good read IF you can get a decent second hand copy considerably cheaper

That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

Old but rather a nicely filmed video showing the "Beast of Turin"

Think its engine was also used in airships

Disgraceful, fossil fuel burning, greenhouse gas emitting, noisy dangerous toys for rich people without anything better to waste their money on. This sort of individualistic polluting shenanigans needs to be outlawed asap. This is the 21st century for gods sake you're not allowed to look back fondly at previous times when people had a devil may care attitude and marvel and recreate and enjoy them. I mean where are the seat belts and indicators and airbags? Totally irresponsible. Those were evil and hedonistic times and are rightly being outlawed. The sooner the better.

They are dangerous machines that have no place in an enlightened society. I wouldn’t mind having one just to show people how bad they are. I could see myself collecting them to keep everyone safe.
