What I do in my spare time...
« on: June 04, 2015, 11:14:01 AM »
When I'm not restoring Moto Guzzis I maintain a collection of cars for a guy named Joe Bortz. He has about 30 one of a kind cars in his collection. I drove these two this week making sure they are ready for a show father's day weekend at Harrah's Joliet....

This is Glenn Johnson's 37 Ford that was on the cover of Hot Rod in April of 1952

Barris Kustoms 55 Chevy.

Yep.  Looks like it beats the hell out of the cube I spend 8-hours per day in!

You choose to spend eight hours a day of your spare time in a cube?

I guess it's not my "spare time", but Unfortunately, yes I work in a cube farm 8-hours per day.

feels like this.

looks more like this.

would rather have this.

But it doesn't really pay...

When not on WG, I'm spending my "spare time" on two-wheels or four-legs...  and would love to find a way to get paid for it, so I could bid the cube a not-so-fond farewell...

What do you use for paint polish / sealant / wax?  I was using Klasse All-In-One then bought a random orbital polisher and am now using Griot's paint sealant and/or best of show wax.  Any other tips for a daily driver?

How much do you have to pay them to work there anyway?

Not to sound arrogant but, polishing them is below my pay grade. These cars see the light of day three or four times a year tops.
Next Sunday however, is one I have a hard time charging for. It's the semi annual bike exercise day. I am forced to ride all 17 of his bikes.

Oh the horror of test ride day.
My dad is a retired auto dealer and still has a love of cars so he plays by buying and selling classics. Favorites are 1961 Jeep FC-150, I drove that one daily for a few years before he restored it. 1958 Pontiac wagon with pontiac 370. And one he bought from a close family friend when he was told old to enjoy it anymore is the 1948 Packard. I've drove it a few years before he bought it and simply a amazing piece of American automobile history. The torque of that straight 8 and how smooth it runs is amazing. A few come and go but a fair amount stay around for quite awhile.
