My first Guzzi!
« on: August 25, 2019, 04:56:39 PM »
Made my last payment to the ex in June and thought 'Wow, I can get a V7!'  Then in July saw a that MG was offering 3% financing and $3k off 2018 Touring models.  Had to be a sign from God.  So mid-July called a dealer and said I'd take one.  MG managed to forget to make the shipment so I didn't pick it up until Aug 23rd.

Only two people tried to kill on the 175 mile ride to Fort Wayne.  The first, a young (to me) lady was watching her cell phone and crossed way over the center line.  Couldn't be upset with her, youth and all that.  The second one a pickup truck pulling a camper tried to squish me.  When I passed his wife was giving him a BIG piece of her mind.  My female friend who was following me made numerous rude gestures his way.  No sense getting upset with him, he already had two women offering behavior modification.

This is the heaviest motorcycle I've ever ridden and the first with floor boards.  The weight I'm getting used to but the floor boards and heel and toe shift will take more work.  I keep getting my feet caught on the floor boards and shifting the opposite of my intent.

The quality of the bike is impressive.  It has a mind-numbing set of controls and configuration options.  I once had a dog smarter than me, now I may have a motorcycle smarter than me.

The red one is faster but this is more than enough for me.

I've been reading forum for various issues and apparently you need a rubber chicken and a beetle map to keep a Guzzi happy.  Found a rubber chicken and a map.  Haven't found a beetle but will keep looking.  Can I keep both in the same saddle bag or do they work better separately?

Excellent choice and welcome.  Yeah, floorboards take some getting used to, but if you don't like them after a while, there are options.

Read a lot, search for answers, ask questions.

Great bikes, and an interesting community of owners.

I think I would keep the map and chicken separated. If the chicken reads the map, he might fly the coup :whip2: :boozing:

Nice bike!!!!

Ride it, get a feel for it, then if a new map is in order, go for it.

My Chook rides on the turn signal stalk. He has saved me from some of those texters, drunks, etc. several times. He failed to warn me of a cop hiding behind a hill and curve one time, but other than that, he's been solid.
It looks as if yours may have chicken pox, though. Maybe a trip to the vet is in order?

Seriously, if you EVER think your bike needs a better map, just go the Beetle thing.

Welcome to the forum and your first Guzzi.

I don't know about the heel toe shifter on the 1400, but I like the one on my 2001 Cali Special. Bang up, Bang down.

Hi Steve,                                                                                                                                                  8-25-19

Moto Guzzi was forward thinking enough to connect the heel shifter to the toe shifter by two bolts.  Remove the bolts and the heel shifter, adjust the toe shifter height and it becomes a simple conventional toe shifter.  Easy peasy.

Welcome and be well,

DougG

Welcome to the best virtual environ around!

I also leave the chooks at home.  They tend to jostle constantly for the best spot on the bars, causing too much distraction.

My navigator, on the other hand, is a fantastic companion!

I have the 1400 tourer also. You car remove the heal shifter part. I removed mine and there is a lot more room for your foot positions and comfort and I don’t mind shifting with my toe. Great bike I’m sure you will enjoy riding it.
