Stuck in Denver
« on: July 17, 2015, 08:10:09 PM »
Being back in trucking after being out of it for years, I'd forgotton the "Joy" of being stuck  at truckstops.  I'm at the Denver West TA in Wheat Ridge CO until 0600 tomorrow.  I had planned on getting to Hudson before shutting down. Thanks to contruction in Glenwood Canyon and the Port of Entry I lost enough time that I had to park here for the night. Been years since I been here; forgotton what a one hole outhouse this place is. GC: I am wearing my Cedarvale NAR shirt.

If you wish to know what a man is, place in him authority.
False accusations reflect more on the accuser than the accused.
They can take everything from you, including your life, except your honor and integrity.  That you must give away.
Do or don't do. There is no try.

"Get Out Of Denver" - Bob Seeger

I still remember it was autumn and the moon was shinin'
Our 60 Cadillac was roarin' through Nebraska whinin'
Doin' 120 man the fields was bendin' over
Headin' out for the mountains knowin' we was traveling further
All our fires were blazing and the spinnin' wheels were turnin' turnin'
Had my girl beside me brother.
Brother she was burnin' burnin'

Up walked a Baptist preachin' southern funky school teacher
She had a line on somethin' heavy but we couldn't reach her
We told her that we needed somethin' that would get us goin'
She pulled out all she had and laid it on the counter showin'
All I had to do was lay my money down and pick it up
The cops came dustin' in and then we lit out in our pickup truck go

Get out of Denver better go go
Get out of Denver better go
Get out of Denver better go go
Get out of Denver cause you look just like a commie
And you might just be a member better
Better Get out of Denver
Better Get out of Denver

Well red lights were flashin' and the sirens were a-screamin'
We had to pinch each other just to see if we was dreamin'
Made it to Loveland Pass in under less than half an hour
Lord it started drizzlin' and it turned into a thundershower

The rain was drivin' but the Caddy kept on burnin' rubber
We kept on drivin' till we ran into some fog cover
We couldn't see a thing somehow we just kept on goin'
We kept on drivin' all night long and then into the mornin'fog.
It finally lifted when we looked to see where we was at
We're starin' at a Colorado state policeman trooper cat

And go Get out of Denver he said go go
Get out of Denver better go
Get out of Denver better go go
Get out of Denver cause you look just like a commie
And you might just be a member
Better get out of Denver
Better get out of Denver better go

Oh better better better go
Hey go
Ah better better go go go go
Cause you look just like a commie
And you might just be a member better
Get out of Denver better go!

I remember getting out of Denver with my H2 Kawasaki - went to a truck stop seeking somebody who'd take a paying passenger to San Francisco.

Truckers there told me to ride north to Cheyenne and try my luck there. Got one ride there with a flat bed to Salt Lake City, then another there with a moving van to San Francisco. Fun days - I gave those two drivers about what it would have cost me for gas and oil, and they hauled me and my bike through four foot snow drifts.

That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

Maybe this will help you pass the time Matt, I think of this song when Denver is mentioned:

Uh, it's Wheatridge, not Wheatland, but yeah, you're not in a pretty spot.

Nope. And my bad, it's Wheat Ridge, not Wheatridge. No, it's just a gritty Denver suburb that flanks I-70. There is a fairly new Costco nearby that I frequent, and a pretty good drum shop just down 44th Ave from where Stormtruck is holed up, but otherwise I just stay on the freeway when I go through there.

Avoiding Denver and its burbs is a good idea in general . Peter Egan wrote about avoiding any city that shows up in yellow on a map , works well for this Okie

Man I love that song.  Rolls right into "Let it Rock".  One of the greatest rock albums ever - Live Bullet.

Steve,
You might be thinking of Jim Casey as he takes his Guzzi on the back of his semi. Neat rig.

Hello, Matt.  A little late on the reply you are probably all the way back to Kansas City and headed north on I35 now.   If per chance you need to go south to Gardner today do not take I35, the news said it is closed both directions in Olathe today for bridge work.

Y'ep.  Spent time with them last month before I left to go south back into NYC.  They were the last on a Guzzi.  There were some Beemer guys hanging at the campsite.  One had his GS w/hack, the other was riding a solo GS.

That is the one, I shouldn't post when I'm half asleep.
