Ok,finished the 1000km service this afternoon. No problem getting in into 6th with the advice here, thanks for the tip, guys.Took about an hour.Found the exhaust clearances were spot on,the intake a bit tight.Exhaust calls for .0039.I have an .003 and an .004 gauge. The .003 was too tight,I adjusted to the .004.
I've changed the oils, adjusted valves, torqued the head nuts.Anything else on these bikes that need special attention at this service interval?
Oh,and is there any way to clear that "Maint" reminder that comes up on the gauge?Or is that something only the dealer can do?

Dusty old bean... If you think that was vicious, don't ever go to an Aussie rally. And it's pretty mild compared to some of the antipodean posts I could drag out. Kev'll be ok, honest, he took the trouble to mention a few times about his martial arts escapades, won't be the first hit he's dished out or received. All it took by him was some corrections to his post, no one lost an eye.

having trouble getting the bike into 6th gear to facilitate spinning the rear wheel to find TDC.I cant seem to get it past 3rd gear.Is there some trick to this?

Again, um... NO. Whatever is wrong with that response? That's all I was talking about...

I've changed the oils, adjusted valves, torqued the head nuts.

So, did you do it in that order, or did you follow the advise to retorque the heads before setting the valve clearance ?

But there was a trick to it,bumping the wheel,or as I did it,rolling the bike forward as I kicked the gears. At first I was just trying to shift it while it was on the stand. So the correct response shoulda been,YES.
kidneb, torqued the heads first.I did check the clearances before and after the re-torque just to see if there was any difference, there wasnt.

Another thread proving that the sun is always past the yard-arm somewhere and....

it's always winter (like) somewhere!

Bubba just wants to know why he can't get past 3rd. I always figured playing the rear wheel while trying to shift would do it.

AND what's really weird, I haven't seen any marks on the flywheel in 20yrs. I don't even take the plug out. I had 1 Suzuki, it's the only one I didn't have to rock the wheel.

That's way too much of a generalization

I'm of course talking about Guzzis, and any other bike with a centerstand.

You mean like the three Guzzis to which I referred?

I'm not begrudging you your preference, but so many different bikes have an easy way to directly turn the crank I don't generally share it.

Well, I didn't  (and still don't) think popping the bike on the stand and rotating the wheel slightly while nicking the shift lever could be considered a trick! Call me Dynamo...

Nick D's '03? EV flywheel had all of the same marks as earlier bikes. <shrug>
