3 vids. The last one is very interesting. The diver is 120' in the air, in a water tank but submersed in 40' of water.

Local water Company cleaned 6 feet of mud out of the water tower recently. Our water is not filtered, just treated.

Gravity can be useful
The Victorians knew how to build these things and make them look good
Here's a disused one, originally built for an isolation hospital that is a couple of miles from where I live.

When I was in high school we would go swimming in a water tower, mostly at night so not to get caught. Total darkness inside.

Yes, it was for the Boy's Home in the Corrections facility. Bad dudes from Chicago were in there.

As I rode thru Linville, Alabama this past March after riding in the Cheaha mountain area, saw this unique looking 1917 watertower (built in Georgia).
The GRiSO is that little bike at the bottom..

Water tanks/towers are often on the highest bill around. Sometimes this is also the affluent part of town.
In Seattle, they solved the conflict by building a brick shell around the giant tank, with a spillage staircase between the tank and the shell. An enclosed observation deck is on top.
This is one of the coolest free places in Seattle, but truly a secret, rarely mentioned in tourist overviews.

Highest hill around can be a relative thing.
Our house in VA sits higher than the community water tower, necessitating the local water supply to fill a cistern part way up our driveway from which we use a submersible pump to pressure tank system to supply the house.
An interesting side note: the original owner did have a well drilled that functioned a few years until one day all the plumbing fell into the underlying salt caverns. Necessitating the above hack.
Another side note: Saltville sits atop what I believe is said to be the country’s largest natural gas reserve pumped into the underlying underground caverns.
…..that and the fact we’re directly below a low level military training flight route makes it an interesting place to live…..but the view of the VA mountains cannot be beat.

When I was very young one of these made a huge racket landing in the field across from my house. It was to be used to rescue a worker who had fallen into this.

No water towers out here. Just storage tanks and pumps. The one for the neighborhood is at about 1200 ft. elevation and our house is at 500 ft. elevation. The elevation change is within a 1 1/2 mile. We still have water pressure when there's an electrical outage.

In a little prairie town out here a number of years back they found a floater in the town water tower, the dude had been missing for 6 or 8 months, I heard that the amount of home canned products that showed up at the dump was monumental. DonG

I pull mine right out of the mountainside... no muss no fuss!
No dead bodies or swimming teenager musk in my supply!

How often do you have the water quality checked? Well or spring? Curious here. 🤔

its a well but I live on a mountain with a couple springs popping out the side and feeding the creek that runs thru my property.
Never had the water tested but it smells like nothing and tastes great and I'm still alive so i'm feeling pretty good
