1980 1000 SP tail light gasket
« on: August 08, 2021, 07:40:23 PM »
I’ve been scouring the the web but I can’t seem to find a replacement stick tail light gasket for my SP - it doesn’t even show in the parts book.

I don’t suppose anyone here has a pattern to make my own?   The old one just crumbled and isn’t a good template.

I had the same problem with my MilleGT taillight.  I ordered some self-stick 1/8" Neoprene foam gasket material.

What does your lens look like?  Can you trace out the gasket shape from your lens?

I just had a look at the tail lens gasket on my SP project- it's looking a little tattered too. If you can't find the gasket:

Buy some (thicker) engine gasket material, trace the pattern using the tail light lens. With a pair of scissors and a set of leather punches (Cheap at Harbor Freight) to make the screw and dimple holes and to cut inside corners, it's pretty easy to make one.  Probably quicker than ordering one too.

It sounds like you are going down the path i am - tracing and making my own.

Of course, mom never let me play with scissors so this will be interesting...
