Griso luggage
« on: March 23, 2019, 07:17:42 AM »
I am happy with a Givi 29 litre top case recently installed, it is from the monolock (not monokey) family of Givi products so it came with a universal mounting plate. At $99  the value is outstanding imo. I mounted it on the Griso-specific rear rack, $103 from AF-1, so the whole setup was about $200. I do not want a huge top case detracting from the looks of the Griso, and this piece will easily carry what is needed for a 2 night trip.
Givi has a distribution center and showroom here. The guy there said something interesting when I told him all I wanted was a 29 liter case. "I am in the luggage business, and sometimes I want to say to guys, you know, having more luggage just means you are going to bring more stuff."

I have a Guzzi luggage rack on mine and mounted a 42 liter top box for a trip. Since it is high and way back there, I don't load it when riding with much. More a place to store helmet and jacket when stopped. Mainly only carry quick need stuff in it.  Bag on the back seat is luggage storage. Surprisingly I thought it only looked mildly hideous.

It comes off when not traveling, mount and box..
The best part of riding a motorcycle is to tilt the horizon and to lift the front coming out of a corner and to drift the back end powering thru loose dirt and to catch a little air topping a hill and... yeah it's all good!

I have an image on imgbb but do not know how to post it. Not the best picture anyway, as it is in the garage, it is snowing here (sigh.)

I have a Chinese copy of this but I only put it on the bike when I am parking in the city. For camping/traveling, I find I can carry more with a canoe bag across the back and my stock Guzzi bags.

Looks good on the Griso!  Is it big enough for a helmet?

Here is a better picture of the 29 liter bag, it will hold a full-face helmet. It was a little chilly on The Comstock. The Oxford grips and Stelvio guards kept my hands warm, a minor miracle for someone with Raynaud's syndrome, in summer weight gloves no less.

I finally learned how to post pictures, so the novelty is getting the best of me. Another of the new bike with Givi 29 liter. I think anything bigger would have been too much.
BTW I saw a big pile of fresh wild horse dung in the middle of Gieger Grade. Never seen that before in hundreds of rides to Virginia City. It was in a spot one would never expect to see a wild horse, the perils of riding never cease to amaze.

That looks like the perfect size for the Griso, not too large or unsightly like some that I have seen.

Have at it, can't have too many pics with a Griso in it.

Would you be able to say what the length width height dimensions are. I agree that's a nice size.

Different approach to Griso luggage:

Hepco Becker CBow Oval Street bags.  22 liters each.  They can literally be installed/removed in less than a minute. This is what the Griso looks like with the bags removed:

Exactly, a rack with a waterproof bag trumps a normal size box every time, I've found for my use anyway.

That's a nice set-up, and great call on the color too.

OEM bags and racks all around...nice low profile and easy to use, are expandable too and have both snaps and zippers...well designed.

Here's my luggage solution. I have a large Griso tank bag (as well as the smaller magnetic one) and 2 large Hepco Becker bags with a tail rack to hold more stuff!

I should post mine then.

Givi Top box, soft bags and an extra 10L of fuel, tenting equipment in a bag on the seat.

Note the rubber mat under the sump as a rock stopper, I also had a piece of lexan covering the headlight, simple ears engaged the headlight bolts.
The gas cans were sitting on an L bracket attached to the passenger pegs with worm drive clips and Rok strapped to the saddle bag for good measure.

Roy,

You must deal with a good bit of rain in the Pacific Northwest. Do you have any tips on controlling water entry into the OEM saddlebags?

I don't recall getting a lot of moisture inside the bags, they have some sort of membrane but even the top box will let water in, I usually have clothes in a garbage bag for good measure.
Sometimes I want moisture inside, they make a great beer cooler filled with ice, LOL

Really my bags aren't much good, someone has replaced the zips so they have very little expansion, only about an inch.

I have to say Roy that is a very fine outback touring rig. The fuel tank mounts are a stroke of genius.
