Post by: yogidozer on December 01, 2021, 04:39:59 PM
Anyone else use tankbag maps? Here's a link to Appalachian area maps.
https://www.appalachianbackroads.com/ They will send you a Backroads MC routes map.
A fishing guide map, a "Spirits of the Clinch" map.....don't drink and ride please.
And a highlights of the area info too.
They also have a GPX download....whateve r that is.
So maybe plan your next trip? Beautiful area.

If they made them with big letters and stuff, my eyes can't do it anymore. Or I have to stop and plan the next few turns in advance...

That's the way I do it.
It's a different type of map. Interesting routes are highlighted in different colors.
Also included is a list of points of interest.
BTW it's a free including mailing it to you.

Use the map to plot a route then put it on my roller.

I just use WAZE and ear buds and just turn where the little lady tells me to turn. Works quite well for me and she doesn’t even wack me on the helmet.

I haven't bought one lately, but Roadrunner Magazine always included tank bag maps of the highlighted shamrock tours.

What brand is that?  What do you use for strip paper?  I saw the one used by the Antique Cannonball Run - those strip charts cost around $150 I think and there is software to print the directions.

Route planning with maps, and I write my route on the inside of my windscreen with a dry erase marker. Been doing that for years and several trips across the U.S.

Is a dedicated blue tooth GPS better? Yes, allows more route flexibility, but this works.

I bought this one:

https://www.revzilla.com/dirt-bike/moose-racing-side-load-route-sheet-holder?sku_id=754672

$29.95, comes with mounting hardware and made in USA.  Then I went to Staples and bought a couple rolls of adding machine paper.  I think it was this stuff:

https://www.staples.com/Staples-Adding-Machine-Roll-2-1-4-W-x-125-L-Single-Part-Roll-Roll-18304-CC/product_531152?ci_sku=531152&KPID=531152&cid=PS:GS:SBD:PLA:Paper&gclid=Cj0KCQiA15yNBhDTARIsAGnwe0WIr7BD13QfhHA4pNR2YADEiOS-uOjhmwf7sNAFDGMz-Vu2SvhVLtAaAiMNEALw_wcB

Make sure you don't get the thermal paper, the cheap stuff works better.

I've been very pleased with the route holder but I did learn that it's a good idea to put a rubber band around the wing nuts so that they don't come off.  I can't read a map while I'm riding but I can write BIG directions in the route holder and read those.  :)
