I'm not liking or disliking it. I'm questioning the value of it based on The fact it seems to be based on nothing we don't already have.

Here's the difference. Look at the RevZilla article by Lemmy. He doesn't call it a review. As a matter of fact he frames the significance of the bike in contrast to the trade show (where it was revealed) as a whole.

Maybe the issue is with the me and how the thread title had me expecting an actual review and not just another opinion based on press releases.

The comments from the Revzilla article are interesting and generally positive. The complaints about unplugged frame ends is somewhat valid....I guess.

CLICK BAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!  :thewife:  I thought this was gonna be a real ridden review.  Instead, it's an opinion piece similar to the other 1000 we already have on the board.  Can this thread be merged?  I could have been changing the world in the 5 minutes time that I wasted here

The subject caption has “review” in half-quotes, so you were warned. Regardless, I thought the Revzilla piece was a very interesting piece of speculation. We should hope he’s right.

The "half quotes" does not indicate anything specific except there "may" be something curious about the post.  I was not warned.  More at question, I think, is whether using apostrophes instead of quotes for something is a valid point of grammer.  See here.  Discuss.

Quotation Marks: When to Use Double or Single Quotation Marks

An introduction to usage

Quotation marks are often confusing to ESL writers unfamiliar with English grammar and punctuation rules. When to use double or single quotation marks is even trickier. However, there's no need to be embarrassed—these upside down commas sometimes confuse even the most seasoned English writers!

How do I know if I should use double and single quotation marks?

This is a very interesting question. The short answer is that it depends on what country you are writing in. In British and Australian English, one typically uses single quotation marks. If writing in North America, double quotation marks are typically used.

However, sometimes a publisher's or even an author's style may take precedence over such general preferences. In Copy-Editing, Judith Butcher points out that some writers have their own system of quotation marks, e.g., double quotation marks for speech and single quotation marks for thoughts. The most important rule when using these little punctuation marks is that the style of the opening and closing quotation marks match, e.g., 'Good morning, Mary,' called Adrian, or "Good morning, Stephen," called Jane.

One of the common ESL mistakes we encounter is the misuse of quotation marks. If quotations are distinguished only by the use of quotation marks and you are quoting more than one paragraph, use an opening quote at the beginning of each paragraph.

Should I use double or single quotation marks for quotes within quotes?

Incorrect Quotation MarksFirst things first; decide whether you will use double or single quotation marks for the initial quote. If you use single quotations marks, then you should use double quotation marks for a quote within a quote. If you use double quotation marks, then you should use single quotation marks for a quote within a quote. For example:

"When I say 'immediately,' I mean some time before August," said the manager.

"Why did she call the man a 'traitor'?"

Do I use double or single quotation marks for block quotations?

You do not usually need opening and closing quotation marks to punctuate material set off from the main text as a block quotation. Block quotations are typically either indented or put in a smaller font. Quotations within the block will have double or single quotes, according to the convention being used (British or American). As usual, these different conventions for closing punctuation complicate things. Compare the following two examples:

From the Chicago Manual of Style,

The narrator then breaks in:

Imagine Bart's surprise, dear reader, when Emma turned to him and said, contemptuously, "What 'promise'?"

And from Hart's Rules,

'The passing crowd' is a phrase coined in the spirit of indifference. Yet, to a man of what Plato calls 'universal sympathies,' and even to the plain, ordinary denizens of this world, what can be more interesting than those who constitute 'the passing crowd'?

I'm writing in a very specialized field; should I use quotation marks for specialized terms?

In much specialist writing, including linguistics, philosophy, and theology, terms with particular meanings that are unique to that subject are often enclosed in single quotation marks:

The inner margins of a book are called the 'gutter.'

Many people do not realize that 'cultivar' is synonymous with 'clone.'

However, it is still important not to confuse your readers by including too many of these little punctuation marks. Inserting quotation marks may not be essential to your argument. The names of horticultural cultivars, however, should usually be enclosed in single quotation marks:

An example of an apple is 'Jonathon,' of a grape, 'Chardonnay,' and of the Gallica rose, 'Rosa Munda.'

A final word on whether to use double or single quotation marks

While quotations are necessary for most types of writing, too many quotation marks, whether double or single quotation marks, can make your writing seem heavy-handed. To ensure quotation marks have been properly used in your writing, consider sending it to the professionals at Scribendi for proofreading.

a valid point of grammer.

All very good points you raise mate..
But if you are going to tear someone a new arse and educate them, you'll really need to proof read your stuff.
Aussies who have at least secondary school education do use double quotation marks.
I'm just an interstate truck driver with a Tech school education, but as I understand it, double quotation marks are used to quote the spoken word and singles are to signify a 'tongue in cheek' reference to an example of common phraseology or vernacular.
Also from your post..?
That'd be "grammar"

Well, I hadn't intended to get into a debate about grammar, so I've learned something. The use of inverted commas, correctly or incorrectly, were intended to indicate that what might have been billed as a review isn't a review based on much substance - but the 'reviewer' does claim to have seen the bike.

Anyway, some may find the blog 'interesting'. Or maybe not.

Hell yeah..!
State of excitement, confusion....etc.
There are a whole manner of things to see outside the epicentre of the known universe.
Why just recently, we had a new toilet installed whereby after you have stayed the requisite time, you pull a chain hanging from the roof and a torrent of water is directed to the scene of devastation and all evidence of your stay, is whisked away harmlessly out to sea...!
Hard to believe I admit, but true nonetheless..
What else would you expect from the acknowledged best country in the world ?

Interesting article and glad to see some interest from the 'rags' but lets face it..... People dont go to Moto Guzzi Dealers even when they can find one.  Yet, there is some hope as the ADV bikes are hot, but why would someone seek out a MG dealer when there is the Africa Twin, V Strom, KLR, Ducati's 3-4 BMW's.etc.  I predict no converts.....

But were that the case, then one could say..
"Why would someone seek out a Griso, when there are more than enough Ducati Panigale's, MV Augusta F4's and Aprilia RSV 1000's to go around".
They do it because they're weird and they've got class..
There'll be no "converts" because the potential buyer already wants one and does not need to be converted.
Only problem thus far, has been the bike that "we'll never see", was not available.
But not many sleeps left, then we'll see it...

Learned something new today.  I didn't know Australia had states.

Oz is a federation. States, Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania plus two Territories, the Northern Territory and thr Australian Capital Territory. Which is a bit like Washington DC in the fact that it is an *Island* inside NSW and is the seat of Federal Government.

The whole thing is pretty bloody stupid as all states, (Except Queensland.) have full, adversarial, bi-cameral parliaments based on the Westminster system. With our tiny population this is bloody insane but it does mean we have plenty of greedy shitgibbons with their noses in the trough! Three levels of government! Local, (Councils.) State and Federal, none of them ever agree on anything and with a population of only 23 million it's all a vast travesty of waste and duplication! Off to the Gullags with them all! :violent1:

Well, I started the post, and I'm not feeling hurt, disappointed, consumed by self-doubt, or upset. In fact, I can't remember why I started the thread.

I've learned a bit about grammar, Australia and fellow members. All in all, progress of sorts.

Oh "They" certainly could agree about Railway Gauges.
The Australian Constitution (and its precursors prior to 1901) specifically precludes the imposition of tariffs for trade between the Australian States.
So when the railways emerged it made 'political and economic' sense to have differing gauges at the state borders.
Transferring goods and passengers from broad gauge to standard gauge and then narrow gauge is a very effective hidden 'tax' (or more specifically a 'tariff').

All in all a particularly cruel example of small town 'bastardry' imposed on the country.
