New V7iii Feels Floaty. What's the Remedy?
« on: September 25, 2022, 06:51:21 PM »
After today's purchase, I have my 3rd Moto Guzzi.  This time it is a 2018 V7iii Milano.  Following a long ride, the one issue I have with the bike is the lack of a planted feeling.  Instead, the bike feels "floaty", as in disconnected from the ground.  Over small bumps in the road, it felt a bit like the bike pushed me up a bit, suggesting the V7 is underdamped. Springs felt fine on both ends for my 175 pounds in gear, and at no point did I bottom out.  The bike just doesn't feel lean-inspiring.  So now to the $700 or less question: Can those characteristics be fixed, or is this a result of the twin shock setup?  Do Ikon shocks and RT forks fix this?

Check your static sag front and rear.  If the static sag is correct and the bike is still feeling floaty, then pick a suspension mod from Race Tech Gold Valve Emulators to full cartridges in the front, and Shocks with at least rebound damping adjustment to full on Ohlins fully adjustable shock.

So, yes, it can be fixed.

I have Traxxion Dynamics full Cartridges up front with rebound and compression damping adjusters, and Bitubo Shocks with rebound adjustment in my 2018 V7III Carbon Dark.

Tire pressures ?

Or the previous owner replaced the bias ply tires with radials.

Nice.  Think I'll go The Shock Factory in back and RT Gold Valves up front.

Tires were 2 psi low, and the rear shocks lacked enough preload
