Title: 96 Cali 1100i speedometer bulb?
Post by: flower_king001 on May 05, 2019, 06:03:39 PM
Hi,

Trying to replace the blown speedometer bulb on a 96 Cali 1100i. There is a allen bolt on the back side of the chrome cover that I assume comes out and the cover slides off? Problem is the screw just keep rotating.

How does one remove the speedo/tach from the instrument housing?

Suggestions or tips  most appreciated...

Thanks

All I could find is how to replace bulbs in the housing but not how to remove the actual speedo or tach housing.

Help?

thanks

It's been over 15yrs since I messed w/those dashes. If I remember correctly, you have to take apart the square dash and it's bolted to it's mount.

If your 1100I is like my 2004 EVT, the speedo has a "cup" with 2 allen screws to hold the cup on. If so...

The screw goes into a nut that is rubber mounted to the speedo. If the rubber has failed, the screw just turns.

To remove the cup, you need a very small 6mm?? wrench to hold the nut on the back. I use what I think are called ignition wrenches. You reach in through the speedo cable opening and hold the nut.

Even with good rubber, I still use a wrench to hold the nut when I need to take the cover off.

If you need a pic, I can take a few latter today.
