Great to see you safely arrived and on the road, and say hello to Serena and Paul  from Scott the Aussie to them - I used to be a "Moleie". I'm pretty sure you are not venturing down the South West this time, but if you do drop me a line. Your Norge looks unfeasibly excellent. Love the stickers - they wont stay on my HB panniers.....
Serena is racking her brains and can’t quite place your identity.
What did you ride when you were a Molie and how long ago ? What was your address at that time? Can you PM me with your surname ?
Serena is going mental and we can’t tell the difference.

Nice to see another Norge rider who appreciates stickers!!

Enjoy another fabulous trip!
Funny thing that..
I like to have them on the panniers where appropriate, but never on the bike.
A touring bike is only a touring bike while it’s touring, to my mind. I feel it’s ok to display stickers of destinations and statements of achievements when in that mode, it seems appropriate.
That’s why I don’t have such “advertisements” shoved under people’s noses when the panniers and top box is off and I’m just riding into town for a box of washing powder..
The Australian licence plate/number plate/tag, is a good little conversation starter though..

Who knew that Santa rides a Red Nogre!!
Only ‘cause it goes with his outfit..
And absolutely nothing to get excited about..(yet)
But here’s a shot of where we stayed with Paul and Serena’s bikes at the Pub in Old Bolingbroke.

Yes Paul.
But was a nice dry run down to Dover from Lincolnshire and forecast for France looks quite good, so we’ll see.

Currently at Dover awaiting the ferry across to France.
I soaked up a bit of culture yesterday but 20 minutes later I had descended back to my usual level. The weather looks fine for the crossing and tonight I’ll stay a5 the camping at Isques on the French Coastal area and into Paris in the morning for (another) croissant.
A mate of mine has an apartment 4 km from the Arc de Triomphe and I’ll be parked up there for one or two nights. He has a good selection of bikes, and I expect we’ll get a bit done.

It’s official...
I’m too damn old, parked the Norge on a patch of ground at Isques on the French Coast (almost), that looked and felt fine.
It was fairly upright but not hazardously so. I turned away to attend to something and the stand sunk a bit and the fully loaded Norge with panniers and top box went arse up..!
I removed the right pannier and top box with it on it’s side, fairly confident that a mixture of subdued anger and blind panic would lend me enough strength to pick it up.
Granted it still had the left pannier on and that stopped the expensive bits hitting the ground, but I just could not get it past the point where the wheels and left ‘peg were on the ground.
I had to get help from an old bloke and that was enough.
I wasn’t far short of success on my own, but I could not have done it without him. No damage to the bike, the  grass was pretty soft.
I guess that’s why she went over..!
That V85 is a lot lighter.

Not too labour the point, but dropping ones bike is never fun!

However, these look like they'd be useful https://www.thethunderfoot.co.uk/

Unfortunately 10 quid compared to a free squashed beer can makes the economics a bit leery! Especially if you use your posy puck and some tea-leaf has it away but isn't courteous enough to replace it with a squashed beer can :violent1:

That is a clever ideal!  We have some hellish states where you can't even park your bike on pavement without the risk of the sidestand sinking into tar.  I have a collection of sidestand plates given out over the years.  They have a small hole on one end to tie some string to but don't automatically retract.

Parked up in central Paris.
Out today with a bloke being toted around in a Precision sidecar pulled by an old R60 BMW with an 800 donk. A bit Wallace & Gromit. But like kissing your sister..( good fun if your mates don’t find out)..
(Pics to follow)
Bloody hell..! I didn’t think it’d be that much fun, but I reckon I could sit in that for quite a ways.
I’ll post some good stuff shortly..

G'Day Pete.

Great to see that your on the road and enjoying Europe! Looking forward to reading your upcoming posts.
Ride safe and soak in the wonderment.

It's remarkable that your bike wasn't the only one in that Get-Routed container I am Familiar with.

Larry n Norma picked up their 1200S in Spain, and are now in Greece/Turkey.

Maurice Turner from Torquay and others are Laverda mounted, also collecting bikes at Felixstowe, riding to the 70 Anni  in Breganze.

Allthebest,
Craig.

Yeah mate..
I saw that orange Jota and commented to the young bloke that it was the tastiest bike there probably bar none!
Anyway, yesterday was about 3 hours in the sidecar touring in and around every back alley and promenade in Paris, (seemingly).
I cannot imagine a better way to soak up the sights, sounds and tastes of a remarkably beautiful city. Francois’ generosity seems to know no bounds and he’s toying with the idea of coming to Oz for a reciprocal visit.
I told him he can have the unlimited use of a Norge, V85 or Mk 2..
Here are some shots of yesterday’s fun..

Ok...
The Wi Fi in the servo is slower than a 2VPC Norge, so I’ll wait ‘till I am at Franz Belgium’s, or another guy I’m visiting in Tilburg.

Yeah Paul, I’m gunna’ have to confront that issue.
Problem is, I actually felt good in it so I think the rot has set in.. I rode the Norge a bit with all the luggage off and it felt like your Stelvio or Wyno’s Griso by comparison, for the first few minutes...
(Only the first few..)
But I gotta’ tell y’all. Leaving France entering Belgium, you start to curve away towards the East and I saw a solid wall of black, lightning encrusted weather ahead. I had my rubber over boots on and outer gloves that go with my normal ones.
Suffice to say that once I hit the wall of weather, the road was awash and the squalls were blasting the surface water and the wind was intense for a while.
I raised the (electric) screen and hit “stun” on the heated grips.
The Norge absolutely purred along at 120 k and I snuggled in behind the protection of the screen and took solace in  the bass notes coming from the Staintune and the bike felt like a Rock of Gibraltar.
It’s moments like that when I don’t care if the engine has three and a half valves per cylinder or two or four..
It seems to take over for me and cover for my mistakes or fatigue when I’ve had enough and still have 450 k’s to go.
It’s a romantic notion I’ll admit, but I “feel” at that point like I’m not riding “on it”..
I’m riding “with it..”
