3 days in. About 1500 miles from home. 72 Eldo doing its all-day thing nicely.

I see the "Manitoba" sign, but where are we off to?   Just bimbling and seeing the sights?   A destination in mind?

Maybe a nice shotgun and some #7 shells to do a little mosquito shooting?

Have a great trip Nick on your Ambo!  I used to live in Winnipeg, and possibly you should continue on further to the west.   :thumb:

As Gord Downie of the 'Hip' said in that great Canadian road movie 'One Week', I have direction but not destination....

Nick

Peter.....It's an Eldo.  Soap and water time.

Interesting experience today. Minding my own business, rolling through the Manitoba vastness when an animal (either large jackrabbit or a groundhog) dived out from the ditch, realized its mistake and tried for a vertical escape. Unfortunately it was nailed by my indicator bracket and crash bar, spun back and gave my knee a hefty whack as it went by. Two or three pounds at 60 mph gives quite a thump. No real damage to me or the bike though.

Three days to cross Ontario and Manitoba in one. Lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba are colossal, but just puddles left when Glacial Lake Agassiz blew out.

Glad to hear you and the bike are ok, other than some easy fixes! Love seeing these old loops touring. I already have some trips planned for mine.

Hi Nick,   It is great to see that the 72 Eldorado with your newly rebuilt 5 speed transmission is doing so well on the long trip out west.  :thumb: I imagine that you will follow the northern route up toward Edmonton.

Always interesting to follow someone on a trip like that!

I see that you and Nick have the same last name; are you related?

with regard to Lannis's msg ... I have known and did meet Nick on the road about 7 years ago. The '949' in my username is a pure coincidence, as my California II has an engine size of 949cc.

Prior to today I had no firm plans - just a general notion of where I was headed.  Today it changed. Through the immense generosity, skill and enthusiasm of a well-known Guzziholic, my Eldorado is running better than ever.

The payment?  A promise / committment / pledge to head the Eldo to  Dawson, Yukon - so  that's where I'm off next.

Thanks Dave. Currently in Grande somewhere heading for Grande somewhere else (Cache and Prairie - I looked them up).

Nice road 40 Jim...no caribou yet though.

You probably won't see caribou until you get up near Fort Nelson. If you get the chance take the short side trip south to Carcross (Caribou Crossing) from Whitehorse on the road to Skagway. This is the current terminus of the White Pass and Yukon Railway and you may be lucky enough to catch the train in town on its turn around to Skagway. Carcross is a tiny little place but full of charm and not commercialized like Skagway, the Disneyland version of Dawson City and Carcross catering to the thousands of Cruise Ship passengers that arrive in the summer.

One more little gem is the First Nations museum at the west end of the bridge at Teslin, its a small museum but offers a first class display and interpretation of the original people of the area.

When you get to Dawson make sure you have a drink in the Pink Palace, the old original 1885 era hotel on main street frequented by locals and not on the tour bus circuit. The cast of characters who inhabit the place are the best of Dawson.

I suppose I should be getting the guestroom ready?  Would be great to see you and catch up!

Definitely take the Prince Rupert to Port Hardy ferry, if you do!
