Motorcycle transport company recommendations please
« on: July 11, 2019, 06:01:24 PM »
Hey guys (and gals) how about letting me know of motorcycle shipping companies that you have personally used and would recommend. I have used HAUL BIKES however willing to consider others for price shopping. The bike I’m looking at is 1100 miles away. Thanks in advance.

I have used uship a couple of times. It takes a bit of diligence checking into who is bidding on transporting your bike because some are good and some are not so good.
Dan, there is always a fly and ride.
You might have a great time and if you are lucky like I was on my fly and ride, some members here will offer to meet up with you and put you up over night and or do a bit of riding with you.
That was the highlight of my trip! There are some great people here on this forum.

Yep, it's in the WG bylaws that you can't leave us hanging like that.   1100 miles is a perfect rail-and-ride, or fly-and-ride.

I did a Greyhound-and-ride once to pick up a Guzzi 500 miles away but I wouldn't do that again!

uship.com is who i used to ship my eldo from dewey Oklahoma to southern Arizona. Cost was $450. The guy that brought it used a toy hauler pulled by a new diesel pickup. He was a motorcycle enthusiast and knew how to properly tie down a bike, which makes all the difference.
I gave the driver a $50. tip because he did such a good job, and kept me informed with texts all during the transport.
I met him at a truck stop off the interstate to save money over him delivering it to my front door. That saved about $150.-$200.

I’m on Uship now, one offer so far for 1500 bucks, lol, I won’t say what my response was. The bike is 1100+ miles away in MN. Haul Bikes gave me a quote for 550.00 and they do a great job. One of the guys here gave me a guys name and number and I have a call in to him but haven’t heard back. Antmanbee recommends fly and ride but I don’t fly and I’m not going to attempt to ride a bike I don’t know from Adam 1100 miles.

Dan, I posted in haste this morning just before going to work and then remembered after about you telling me that you do not liking to fly.

Lol, I was thinking you may volunteer to fly up there and ride the old gal back for me. You can stay over a few day to help me work in my diet;)

If I can get away from work I will do it for you. This time of year I start getting on a tight schedule.
Dan, you got to buy your bikes in May, June, September and October, when I have more time available, and I'll be your delivery boy.

When I needed to get a Harley from New Mexico to Atlanta, I tried U ship without success.  Several bids, all laughably high.  Ended up using Haul Bikes for $500.00, that was their "no delivery date" price...it gets there when it gets there.  I was in no hurry so that was fine.  Only slight damage was the front tie down straps tore the side reflectors off the fork legs.  For what it's worth, I've shipped personal bikes across country 6 times now, and always have some varying amount of damage (usually rubbed paint on side bags) from minor to major.  Federal tried their best to completely destroy a Ducati Mulitstrada once.  Then, a few years later, Motorcycle Shippers did their best to total a Honda VFR, when I arrived to pick it up, it was hanging at an angle from only two straps as tight as piano wire.  The other two had pulled out of the plywood pallet.  I was screaming at the fork lift operator to stop, fearing one of the remaining straps would break and the bike would come crashing to the ground, but he didn't care.  They treat your bike with the same care as they would a crate of bowling balls. On the Honda, the front forks got tweaked so that the bike couldn't be ridden much above 80 mph due to the vibration.  Choose carefully, and pad the bike with foam as best you can if you can.
