2007 Norge final drive oil
« on: August 17, 2015, 03:45:14 PM »
2007 Norge 1200 is new to me had 9800km on the clock when picked it up May/15. Changed the fluids - the final drive oil was slightly milky in color. New oil & put 5k on now the oil is very milky - did ride through 5 hours of very heavy rain a few days prior. Fresh oil and 30km later the oil is milky again. What gives? Using Agip 80/90 gear oil supplied by the dealer. Could the breather fitting fail? Never had rear diff oil look like this before.
Thanks for any help.

Breather fail, allowing water intrusion.

You may have to put a tube on it, like some of the Stelvio guys have done.

Next time you change the fluids, try Redline 80W Gear Oil with ShockProof(tm).  You'll feel a nice difference in shifting.  Yeah, it's only 80W, but it works just fine and is a nice improvement.

Add a breather tube up the frame or replace the vent.

Hell, that bike isn't completely broken in yet.  It can take as much as 10,000miles (16,000Km) before everything is settled in and feeling good.

Enjoy,

Thank you for your replies - I have seen the fabricated vent tube - will give it a shot after I change out the breather valve.
This is an amazing bike. It had not been ridden much over the previous 8 years and took about 2500 km before it loosed up. Went for a scoot into British Columbia, Canada to ride BC 6 (best motorcycle road in BC) and BC 3A - the bike is a dream to ride. The only other bike I have ridden that was more fun was a Buell Ulysses.
