Methinks an "Illegal Smile" may have been part of your listening.

This really hits hard.

I hope he is enjoying his 9 mile long cigarette.

One of the voices in my head went quiet today.  I am so deeply sad.

Ya' know that old trees just grow stronger
And old rivers grow wilder ev'ry day
But old people just grow lonesome
Waiting for someone to say, "Hello in there, hello"

Thanks for the soundtrack of my life, John.

His passing brought a tear to my eye, I saw him live at our local folk festival years ago, he headlined the Saturday night main stage, fantastic performance, I remember it so clearly, he was fantastic.

One of the voices of my generation. As a very young man he wrote immortal songs with an unexplainable empathy that compares in my mind to Emily Bronte writing Wuthering Heights as a youg girl who had never left the farm.

Dorcia and I faced the west and sent him off. Hope he has a good trip. He had a unique insight to the human condition and could make you understand..

 Dusty

Agreed Dusty...and equally impossible that the same young man wrote a song from the perspective of an old woman, "Angel from Montgomery" and when he sang it you believed every word. JP's songs will live on in all of us...and he is irreplaceable...in my humble opinion he is the finest American song writer! Woody Guthrie, Hank Williams and Bob Dylan are up there with him...but this guy could make me cry and smile at the same time...It's so hard for me to describe how beautiful the truth and sadness in his music make me feel.

I hate grave yards and old pawn shops, for they always bring me tears, can't forgive they way they robbed me, of my childhood souvenirs" RIP Mr. Prine and thank you for making my world a better place

I always meant to come back and add a few final words to this after JP's passing.

Some of the younger, newer fans have a hard time understanding why this man has affected some of us so greatly.

I realize now that this special, totally unique, soul to soul connection I had with JP over the course of a lifetime, was one he shared with literally, millions of others.

I think a small part of a lot of people died when he did.

JP was always there with an appropriate comforting song, no matter what life brought to you.

As a young beat cop, JP was like the wise old grizzled vet, who could make always make sense in the midst of crazy chaos; Six O'Clock News, for apparently senseless suicides, Sam Stone, for people who were heros in another time and place, now lost in the throes of addiction,,,, Bruised Orange for all sorts of tragic mindless accidents,,,,, Where Have all the Hobos Gone To, for the true desperation of street urchins, living off the scraps of others,,, Hello in There for unseen hidden pain, of the isolated and shut ins,,,, Summer's End, for the true cost of addictions,,,, etc, etc, etc,,,...

The man who made sense of it all, for so many of us, is no longer here,,, I don't think anyone is going to fill those shoes any time soon.

I realize this is late to post the info, but in about an hours time, there is going to be a live streaming JP tribute on this youtube link, it's also available through his FB pages (be careful of suspicious fishing links, I think I've seen a few already).

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv05dPfmx40&fbclid=IwAR32XvZtphiPW7HL__N6AsuwaK3hRsK10-2Ontm0izknRjX_qR8owSHNkIk

According to Fiona Prine, this on line tribute event is schedule to be available until 14 June 2020 and then no longer available; so if you're a fellow Prine fanatic, you may want to take this in, the opportunity may not come around again.

I won't be having a Handsome Johnny, but I will be smoking a 9 Mile Cigarette in his honor, and there is a good possibility of an Illegal Smile

     Stay safe and take care
