Title: Went bike shopping with Chris
Post by: wymple on October 04, 2016, 08:26:57 PM
Went to Wisconsin with Chris today, carrying with him a mad fever for the Royal Enfield single. It only had 422 miles on it. He will be along to explain what happened shortly........

So the story goes. I really wanted a Royal Enfield 500 Classic, so bad in fact that I drug my dad all the way to Big Bend, Wisc. to look at one. 2015 military green with 400 miles on it. Unfortunately for the RE there was a Moto Guzzi there for sale also. This Moto Guzzi which I thought I wouldn't like really grabbed my attention. Now it didn't make me like the RE any less, I still want one, but the MG just kept pulling me in. I was smitten. It had to and did come home with me. Here is the link for the ad.

I will post some pictures tomorrow, need sleep now.

It's a beaut, couple dings. I like it a lot and kept my mouth shut while he pondered the whole thing. The RE was nice but not really the bike to put many miles on once out on the road. It just couldn't match the siren's pull of the Goose.

I saw that same color combo bike in a dealers showroom and fell in love. That's the bike that first got me interested in guzzi's. I'll have one soon.

I bought a new leftover 2012 C5 Bullet earlier this year in chrome/black for $2,600 OTD tax and tags included. I wasn't looking for another bike but it was so inexpensive that I had to buy it. I rode it for a 1,000 miles and sold it for $2,500. What I found in the 1,000 miles:

-My RE was comfortable w/o any crazy buzzing or weirdness up to 75mph indicated (all she'd do with my 240lbs atop her)
-This bike was made to terrorize 2 lane back roads at or around 60mph handled well and braking was sufficient.
-At the price I paid the bike was a good deal. They are not even remotely worth at or near current MSRP.
-Royal Enfields are very frustrating to sell. The key demographic is folks from India. They seem to be exceptionally frugal group of folks routinely offering 75% less than the asking price and then they get offended when you do not accept.

Only reason for selling is in the spring I decided to sell of at leas 50% of my heard and the RE and at least 4 Guzzi's made the cull list. In the end I would not hesitate to own another but it is prudent that you ride each bike and access it individually. It is not uncommon for two of the exact same year/model bike to feel entirely different. One might have exceptional buzzing at or near speed the other can be smooth as silk.
