General Discussion / Re: Offically an old geezer rider

I bought my 4x8 trailer "new" in '90 for $400 to move from one home to another.  These days it gets used by friends & family for all sorts of things but I still use it once in a while.  I think I'm on my fourth set of tires since they don't age well.

Keeping it registered has cost more than the pruchase price.

General Discussion / Re: Fuel injection hose size/type & are clamps necessary?

May be a silly suggestion but have you tried heating the old hoses to soften them. Recently ran into a similar problem on a kit car with hard fuel hoses, dipping the ends into boiling water for 30s or so softened them enough to allow them to slide onto the barbed fittings of a replacement fuel filter. Might not be a solution for you but I'll throw it out here anyway.

I'd like to get something like the Corsa solo seat on my Special Edition, with tri-colore stitching, that would look SO cool!

MG do a "solo" seat I have it on my Centenario.

Your post reminds me of riding along side friend's bikes.  It was pretty obvious who was performing proper chain maintenance and who was not.  A dry, maladjusted chain makes a lot of noise at highway speeds.

Trials bikes have chain tensioners, as did some of the old European trail bikes.  Apparently, manufacturers figure there is not enough benefit to justify the expense of adding to street bikes.
The range of motion of the swingarm on a road bike is small compared to an off road bike.
Also the line joining the two sprocket centres on a road bike passes much closer to the centreline of the swingarm. This all adds up to mean that the slack in a roadbike chain is far more constant as the swingarm moves, than an off road bike.
They are simply not required.

Just in general, but many of the lines harden over time and need to be replaced.  Whether that's fuel or airbox lines or drain tubes etc...Every time I have the tank off I inspect the hoses to see if they are hardening.  I did some Oetiker clamps and simple hose clamps on some items I wanted to ensure would not come off just in case they get blown off for any reason.

The Beemer shop has the very nice connector for the fuel line, more elegant than pure barbed brass finishes if you're interested....or is that the one you're referring to above?

General Discussion / Re: V85TT fork seal

Last year I took both of the forks apart on my 22 V85tt, so I could install aftermarket cartridges. I don't remember the need of any special tools, other than normal fork disassembly tools, to get it to the point where the seals can be replaced. The fork tools can be bought cheap on Amazon or Ebay.

When I have had occasion to ride beside my Triumph Sprint ST at highway speeds, I loved to look at the bottom run of the chain.
On smooth roads, the non driving section sat absolutely still. Just a gentle harmonic sway as the suspension ironed out the dips….
Magic.

For years I have used the same Wurth grease that many of us use as spline grease to stop squeaky brakes. Apply on cams and shoes and also the cams shafts. Can also be used on disc brakes mounting bolts and such. Works great!

General Discussion / Re: A REAL Solo Saddle for the (Current) V7

Hot dang, for some reason I don’t recall catching these last replies.

Sean_Kelly, nice approach! Looks quite similar to the Triumph solo.

I had taken mine to a custom moto seat “specialist”. I showed them what I wanted done, and they eagerly agreed to work on it. A year later, they barely touched it, and got pissy at me when I came by to get a refund. They gave me the chopped seat pan and quipped “take your money, just get it out of our hair”.

I once got ahold of a V50 III police solo saddle, and thought about modifying that to fit on the V7. Man, I wish I had stuck with simply trimming it up to fit, but by the time I was done with it, all that was left was the pan. So, the plan remains to eventually get to this build; I’m just nervous about making sure the seat contours to my rump well enough. Plus, other pressing projects jumped up in queue: rebuilding the motor, installing the enduro forks (soon!), building various size wheels (soon!), sidecar mounts, etc. Then the BMW airhead came into my life, and just recently I finished repairing a salvage V7 III. Anyway—hoping to get to the solo seat and fender rack combo by year’s end.
