Title: In the mood for a couple hundred miles
Post by: ohiorider on July 31, 2021, 08:14:40 AM
Now that I have the clutch cable free play AND pushrod actuation lever angle properly adjusted, clutch take-up is once again a gradual, analog thing vs off/on near the end of releasing the handle.  So, will take a run from Hudson OH south via the backroads to see Gene and company at Mathias BMW in New Philadelphia.  Some really nice riding down and back.

She's running great, and with my "Herman Munster" boots, I feel secure at stops.
Start mileage: 162550
End mileage:   162727

UPDATE:  Didn't quite make 200 miles, but did get in 177 miles, most pleasant.  We've had a number of days that have been comfortable.  This was definitely one of those days.  Sun and clouds, currently 76 degrees.  Beautiful!  First stop, Heavenly Hash restaurant in Marshallville, Ohio.
I've been stopping there for over 25 years.  Deb, the owner, and I have become friends over the years.  Both times I've had open heart surgery, she's called me at home to see how I was doing.  Sweet person!

Mathias BMW wasn't too busy today, so I had time to catch up with Gene, the owner, and his wife.  Couple of other pleasant customers stopped in, one riding an older /7 that was in nice shape.  He'd owned since new.  Another stopped on a beautiful K1200LT with a striking Hannigan sidecar, color matched.  All in all, a couple of great hours discussing bikes, then returned home.

Days like this make me so glad I'm still able to throw a leg over and ride!

Bob

Dan, we'll probably pay for all the nice riding days we've had in NE Ohio this year, but as you'll see in my edits to my original post, today was another indescribable beaut!

A well set up airhead clutch is a joy .

Getting the cable adjusted properly made this bike rideable for me once again.  I think doing it properly is one of those things that is passed from generation to generation, and sometimes one gen can miss it.  The old gal ran great today, and I noticed that the little bit of vibes I experience between 55-75 mph disappeared at 80mph.  So, 80 it was, and fast traffic was leaving me behind.  I was Right Lane Charlie when I had to run some slab today.  Gave the really fast traffic all the room they wanted.

Hi Bob,

The whole week was nice.  We rode south and meandered around the Mohican area Monday, had lunch at a mom & pop place, ez 240 mile day.  The rest of the week I stayed more local, gonna try to get out this morning before the rain hits.

Glad to see your exercising the old gal!  See you next Sunday at Mike's??!!

Art, thanks for the breakfast reminder.  I'll see you guys and gals there!  I used to ride the Mohican area frequently, often a simple run from Wooster to Butler on SR95, then loop back on SR97.  For many years, we rode 95 and 97 to Vintage Days at Mid Ohio.

Yeah, did AMA Vintage at Mid Ohio last weekend.  Can't believe the admission price these days.  Every year I keep forgetting to buy advance tickets from AMA for discount on admission. :violent1:
