Do you wave ?
« on: May 25, 2022, 07:55:39 AM »
It seems to me that everyone waves, at the start of the riding season.  They're so happy to be able to get out and ride.

Fast forward to summer, and it can be hit or miss.

If the cars see you out riding in really cold temperatures then they simply point at you.  And laugh.  I am sure.

So - do you wave at the other little motorbikes ?

I try to be generally friendly in life (to the point where I stop and help the many lost tourists in my town with directions, or pull over and help folks change tires or push a vehicle off the road), but I dont wave when I'm riding and I have no idea why anyone would? Maybe if I pass a Guzzi I will wave.. but that happens so infrequently that I cant ever remember doing it.

Sometimes people wave at me and I reciprocate on reflex, but I'm always like, 'Why?'

Do you beep and wave at other drivers if they are driving the same car?

Sometimes I'll wave. Most of the time I just give an exaggerated head nod.

LOL "Guilty your Honor" I do when in the Porsche or when I had a Jeep, but otherwise no. I also go out of my way to be friendly and helpful to those around me.

They have to wave first and I’ll respond. 99% of the bikes here are Harleys with guys dressed like pirates who are clearly disgusted with me having a helmet and orange vest and weird motorcycle.

I’m so burned out on the whole waving thing, 22 years ago I was completely into it but a few years later I realized most folks are waving to the bike not the rider

I was out yesterday on the Roamer, coming at me was a HD.  He started to wave, but then very quickly retracted his hand and rode past me as if I were in a Camry.   All I can conclude is he thought I was a fellow sheep, but realized I wasn’t rolling a Sportster and couldn’t bring himself to recognize brand x.

I've waved for the last 45 years assuming I noticed the other bike, some are returned some are not, but I don't wave to see if someone waves back.

I do. Unless it's unwise due to conditions. The world is an ugly place. I figure the more strangers thoughtlessly express any degree of kindness or brotherhood to one another it's a good thing, don't much care the reason. I'm also not bothered if people don't wave. No skin lost.

I usually wave and so do motorcyclists coming toward me, even Hogs with riders dressed like pirates.  It seems to be a thing to do where I ride.  I even wave to scooters.

Nod, wave or leg wiggle to all except GS & hogs - one's too far up their own backside and never wave and the other's too "bad ass" to be nice to others.

I ride to put me in a good mood and I like to share it by waving at all bikers unless I am in the middle of a curve. If they don’t wave back that’s their problem and I don’t let it bother me.I never understood where the low wave comes from and don’t do it as it takes more effort than a brief lifted hand, but I’m ok with anything but a middle finger.

I am not a waver. I will wave back, but I don't initiate the wave. If that bothers you then you have a bigger problem than me not waving. I ALWAYS stop when I see a rider at the side of the road. I might not wave at you, but I WILL lend a hand if you are in a bad spot.

I do.  I really like to wave at sport bikes when I'm on my Road King...King has apes and my beard is pretty long at the moment so I like to see the sport bike riders caught off guard.  I'm a motorcyclist not a "Harley" guy.  I have 2 really cool Harleys currently but I've had a lot more sport bikes throughout my life than Harleys.

My wife rides passenger, most of the time.

She waves at motorcycles.  Scooters.  Kids on bicycles.  Cows out in the field.  Stuff like that.

LOL! I have seen this "club only" mentality in the past, mostly with HD riders.

I wave at everybody.    Bikes, scooters, bicyclists, kids on tricycles, ladies working in their garden, old men cutting their lawn, farmers tilling their fields.

Without a doubt, the biggest smiles returned are from the young Mennonite boys in the horse wagons.

I ride in mostly rural areas, it's a small token of acknowledgement of another human being doing whatever it is they happen to be doing out in the fresh air.

I get a good chuckle when the pirates scowl, stare straight ahead and maintain their big burly ftw attitude facade.

I find it comical how some riders get so worked up about it and refuse to wave at ebikes or trikes, wtf really? life is far too short.

Completely agree with this sentiment too! I wave (usually a two wheels down salute) to all in symbolic recognition of a shared passion for all things moto.

Yes. To all other motorcyclist. One well 2 things I noticed here in Idaho. The wave seems more like a point to the ground. Arm out about and down 45 degrees from horizontal with index finger extended pointing at the ground???  Seems like all riders wave to each other regardless of make or model.  :thumb:

I usually do. My thoughts are if I were to have a "problem" and someone were to stop and offer assistance (most likely another motorcyclist) I would have already had a wave exchanged with them.
