2000 Quota 1100 ES New to me!!
« on: February 25, 2020, 05:24:21 PM »
Was very lucky to be offered a mint 33K Quota by Larry Jones and am looking forward to going many places (Most FL state parks are sand/gravel based roads) my MGX would have puked on. Looking for advice as to accessories and parts to update with. Has the 3 bag system and seems to run strong and ride very well.
Have found the Yamaha headlight upgrade, but may want to upgrade the turn signals, find the hand protectors, engine guards etc. The pop up side stand is an irritant but probably because I haven't had one on a bike for 20+ years. And longer footpegs?
Any suggestions or advice appreciated. Can't wait to take a 3 or 4 hundred mile trip on it.

Congrats on the Quota!  I got mine last Fall and really like it.

I'm sure you read about the cracking rims ... something to check.  But seems most have been corrected by a previous owner during their 20 years at this point.  :)

Sorry no info on the mods you are thinking of.

Sounds like a great deal.   The Quota is a lighter, handier bike that my Stelvio (or at least it feels like it) and ought to do all you want on Florida unpaved back roads ....

Happy trails!

Well, I've ridden both and (just for safety) included "feels like it" in my post .... plus older bikes tend to be lighter 'cause they have less "stuff" on them, but I'll go have a look at the specs and be right back ....

All right, I'm back and boy is my face red ... "seat of the pants" specs didn't work that time for sure.   540 pounds dry for the Quota and 471 pounds dry for the Stelvio.    Wet weights would probably have the same approximate relationship ....

In all fairness, the Quota is a lot like one of those Disney Ballet Dancing Hippos.

Weight isn't everything.

Of the four Guzzis in my garage (750s, Eldo, Convert, Quota), the Quota is by far the easiest to wheel around.

The others feel like tanks - the Quota, more like a bicycle.  The big front wheel seems to make a huge difference.

Agreed, compared to my MGX the Quota feels much lighter (I know there is a 200+ lb difference) and they both have 21" front wheels. And it has Sun rims on it already so no worries there. The MGX feels very heavy moving slow and really wants to fall over if making tight maneuvers. Maybe/probably because I don't have the upper body strength I used to? By the time you're half way thru 1st gear that train is rolling along rather nicely. at speed, 75 plus, the MGX is great. Of course different animal entirely from the Quota.
Thanks to all that replied.

The NTX also has a 32L tank vs the 20L tank on the Quota

If they both carried 20L of fuel the Quota is a few pounds heavier than the Stelvio.

Quota 540lbs dry +33.38.lbs for fuel + 6.5lbs for engine oil + 1.75lbs for trans/rear drive oil total  of about 582 pounds

Stelvio wet weight is 599 pounds.

Then there's the 35HP difference.

I have both, I think the Stelvio is to me the better all-around package, both capable bikes though, enjoy.  DonG

I weighed my Quota at scrap yard scale. It was 615. That was with a filled tank bag, tool roll, crash bars and my collapsible baskets.  I was a little surprised at that number. It does hide that weight very well.Around town it is more than nimble. Like I said before,it's the SUV of motorcycles.

Awesome buy on the Quota! I love mine that I bought last month. As has been mentioned while it’s heavy it doesn’t RIDE heavy! It handles great and is a blast! It’s geared high but I’m in GA and spend lots of time on my commute at 80+ just keeping up with traffic. The aftermarket is sparse but if I was interested in strong support instead of diy I’d have gotten another bike. The resources here are awesome! Search button is most helpful for quota topics!
