September of 2001 I bought my white stone. I had fallen in love with the silver jackal the year before when I saw an ad for it in a mag. Local dealer had a white one and an orange one. The ride home was the first time I had ever ridden a Guzzi and I think I smiled the whole way home. Over the years a set of HB bags, rack, rear trunk, mistrals, open airbox K&N, PC3, handlebars, shield, a bunch of other fun stuff and many miles to rallies towing a trailer. The only issues have been a rear end o-ring and the speedo. If I had the time I wouldn't think twice about riding it to the west coast with a new rear tire. Now it shares time with the Centauro and both lose to the rv now that Cheryl's pillion days are over. So yesterday I get the chance to put just under 300 miles on it riding down to watch the Illini with my daughter. Backroads all the way down and most of the way back. Then a high speed run on the slab for the last 60 miles. There is just something magical about the sound at 80+ sucking air though the open airbox and firing it out the mistrals at night under the stars. The Centauro may be quicker but a Cali in 5th gear feels like it could outrun anything at a high speed roll-on when you grab a bunch of throttle. Yeah I look at new bikes every year, but I think I may have the two perfect stablemates.
